Question on the common app form

On the common app form, I have listed CAS as my first choice for school, with a major in economics and a secondary major in medicine/health and society. I also checked the box that says, "Are you interested in applying to an alternate school at Vanderbilt" and put BME and undecided down as majors. Does that mean that I'm applying to both engineering and college of arts and sciences? Let's say by miracle I get accepted to both, does that mean then that I get to choose which one I want? Finally, if I would rather be in engineering (I put CAS as my first choice because I'm borderline as it is), is it OK perhaps to put CAS as my second choice school and engineering as my first? Does that mean that if I'm rejected by engineering, then I can be picked up by CAS? Ugh, I'm so confused. Sorry for the multitude of questions, but I really want to do what I can to get in . I can't do peabody either because I have limited work with children, and have no interest in education, so yeah. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

come on, someone please answer. This is important as my decision could come down to this. Oh, btw, how much harder is engineering to get into than CAS

Check out the ED stats for the different schools on the Vandy thread....If I remember correctly, higher percentage admitted to engineering than A&S, but it could be a self-selected pool of applicants....Most importantly, however, is whether or not your application and interests as expressed would lead one to think that you would fit in A&S or engineering...(i.e. EC's, courses etc.)

I would really like to know this too. I want to put Arts & Sciences as my first choice and Peabody as my second. If I'm not good enough for A&S, then I'd still love Peabody...but is this possible?

well I have the academic ECs for either or, so please, someone answer this. It's really urgent in all seriousness

You should apply to the school that interests you the most. A&S and Peabody have very different offerings.

I was actually the one asking about A&S versus engineering. I think I might want to start with a BME degree first, and then change later on, but if it's significantly harder to get into, then I don't want to get rejected there in the first place. But like I said, if I checked that box, does that basically allow me to apply to both schools?

Once your in Vanderbilt, you can take classes in any college. I don't know if they accept you to both schools, I think it's just there so you can show your interest in that subject. Just email your admissions officer, thats what I did, and he fully answered all my questions.

You only get accepted into one school. The acceptance rate for engineering is usually higher than A&S. Each school has its own requirements for graduation, so I would be very careful going in thinking you would start out engineering then end up A&S, or vice versa. The school would have to approve the change. It is certainly not a sure thing. I second Matt's advice to contact admissions and browse Vandy's Web site to make sure you fully understand about switching schools/degrees.
