Christopher Newport University-- You need to consider this non-audition program

I know this is a little late to be posting, as most of our kids have finished the application process, but this is a rapidly up-and-coming program that bears looking at.

Christopher Newport University is located in Newport News, VA-- in the SE corner of the state, and is a public university. The campus is located in a suburban/residential neighborhood and is nice! Building are very new and dorms are state-of-the art. Performing arts areas are top-notch. They offer a non-audition BA Theater degree with a concentration in Musical Theater/Dance.

The program has recently been heavily endowed and many scholarships are available-- you would need to attend 1 of 2 auditions (1/25/14 or 2/1/14) to be considered for a scholarship.

This place is a little gem-- I'm totally convinced (my own personal opinion) that this program will turn into an audition program within a few years. Look it up!

I live within walking distance of CNU, so if you have any Qs, post them.

I second what SU88BFA says about CNU. I, too, live in the area, and we have been to a few shows they have put on. Really good! And the Ferguson Center, which is on the campus and where their shows are, is a beautiful center. If you want a non-auditioned program, you should certainly check it out!

No snow here today!

I’ll believe it when I see it! They get us all excited before we go to bed, then nothing…NADA…ZIP. I’m just glad we’re not trying to get to an audition this weekend, and a few years ago when my D was going through this, we didn’t really have any weather related issues. I feel for all those trying to get to the NE this weekend.
