CIM and Audio Recording

Does anyone have any knowledge about the CIM Performance/Audio Recording Double Major? We know D must audition on her instrument AND interview ... if she does not pass audition on said instrument, is she out on AR as well? And vice versa? And what about the workload? HELP!!

Marjecat, there’s some info on the CIM site. In their fast facts, they say there are an estimated 2-3 openings per year for the Audio Recording major, but I cant access the audition parameters, as they are found in the application links, and you have to log in/create account to start an app.

This is general info based on my knowledge and not specific to this program, but in general in dual pursuits applicants combining performance and another music discipline, the applicant is typically held to the higher performance standard. Some schools lessen the standard for a non-performance discipline such as music ed, music tech, composition, etc., while some hold all applicants to a performance standard for any BM admission. You can always call CIM directly and have them clarify.

Given that CIM is a tough admit (particularly in strings), and only 2-3 openings in the AR program, I would definitely have a few safeties.

As for the workload, look at the actual degree requirements in the undergrad handbook (not an overview or summary). The perf/AR combo is five years, the straight AR is a four year. Both are BM’s.This is off the info on the CIM site.

Is she a senior or a junior? The thread here has links to the AES list, and a great post by P Jameson. There are other options for perf/music tech/recording, including Hartt, Belmont, Drexel(?).

Thanks ViolaDad. I got the info from the website, but it’s rather cryptic. D is auditioning next Monday (gulp). Hopefully I’ll get more info when I get there. Wondering if anyone has actually been through the program or has offspring in the program…

The info is cryptic, but there may have been more detail after the app sign-on. I don’t recall any acceptances for the AR program posted to the Master lists http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/618208-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2009-a.html?highlight=Master</a>, but you can check.

Good luck!

The link in my post#2 was left out, and too late to edit it in.

Here it is: <a href=“Music Industry,Business,Technolgy,Engineering - Music Major - College Confidential Forums”>Music Industry,Business,Technolgy,Engineering - Music Major - College Confidential Forums;

The workload at CIM is pretty intense, with classes required on the Case side as well, although some may be covered by AP courses taken in high school ( need a “5” on the exam and it’s then up to the administration). The school also has one of the most difficult music theory sequences around and all CIM students are required to take Eurythemics ( a year for voice majors, two for instrumental). If she does not make it through her audition, I am almost certain that she would not be admitted for A/R.
