<p>Are there benefits to being a U.S. citizen rather than a permanent resident when applying for financial aid? For example, do you get more aid if you're a citizen than a permanent resident? I've lived in the U.S. for 12 years but I don't know if I should apply for citizenship before applications are due. (I will eventually apply for citizenship but I was planning on doing so after all my applications were sent in because of all the papers that need to be filled out) If there's any advantages I will definitely apply immediately. <p>Some outside scholarships are for citizens only. However, the government & most colleges (where the big funds come from) don’t care & thus award the same aid.</p>
