I am looking to get a parking permit from the city of Columbus. I am living on campus in one of the upperclassmen apartments, so I contacted Housing about obtaining some sort of proof of residency needed to obtain a city permit. I was informed that they cannot give me proof of residency until after I purchase a University Parking Pass from OSU.

This just doesn’t seem right. I am paying thousands of dollars to the school to live where I am, and they can’t provide me with a simple document proving this? I will only be having a car with me until December, and the OSU permits are terribly expensive. Are they really able to do this?

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks

According to the website a signed lease is proof enough.

•Resident Applications - A copy of a current utility bill (landline telephone, gas, electricity, or water bill), a signed lease or copy of your most recent mortgage statement, or a notarized letter from your landlord to verify residency.

I contacted housing to request any of the documents mentioned on this website, but was told that they wouldn’t’ give me anything until after I had purchased a permit from the university first.

It just doesn’t seem like they’d be able to do this.

I’m sure OSU is giving you the run around because they want you to buy an OSU permit.

Your statement of account that shows you paid to live on campus could meet the requirement. You could also try and get a notarized letter from your RA that says you are living on campus.

Columbus doesn’t care that you are cheating OSU out of the permit, so you just need to work with them in order to prove residency to them when the university doesn’t cooperate.
