CKB to Donlon

I am making the hard choice of switching into Donlon. I always wanted Donlon for the social aspect, but now i've been assigned an actual nice dorm. I feel like it's the right thing for me, but I don't know if it's just being selfish. I mean, will my freshman experience be changed that much...

Another reason is that my floor isn't shaping quite well from the hallmates preview...and same with my suitemates. btw this possibility is moving me and my roommate to Donlon. its close to finalizing but im hesitant...

can anyone lend some opinion? yes or no will suffice at this point

Of all the buildings to switch into, Donlon?! Look, every dorm is social. Even Dickson, with all its singles, is usually very social. But there’s a difference between social and downright noisy. Lots of people have trouble studying in Donlon even if they close their doors because it’s just so loud (this doesn’t have anything to do with the specific people living in the building, either - it has to do with its construction). Donlon also has dated-looking rooms and gross, often co-ed bathrooms.

Definitely stay in CKB.

come to donlon and have fun with us haha

stay in ckb, donlon sucks

haha so many different opinions.

well my roommate is fine with staying, but now i found a ONE person in a double who is willing to switch…wow i don’t want to be a ***** leaving myself. now im even more conflicted x_x

I would definitely stay put. Firstly, it is still early to judge your floor mates. People tend to be very different in person than they are on paper. (I ended up becoming good friends with a couple of suitemates with whom I never would’ve expected even to have much in common.) Secondly, most people don’t always hang out with their floor mates anyway. I spent most of my free time in Clara Dickson and Donlon. You don’t have to be living in the same dorm to hang out and be friends.

I can’t guarantee that staying in CKB will end up being the right choice for you, but I based on my experience living in CKB and the information given I see it as the safer bet. It is really nice having a clean bathroom and a nice room.

wow my suitemate may have blocked me on facebook, now i can’t find him. and he won’t respond to my email.

anyway im staying. but this is totally weird to me.

some people would rather not meet online prior to meeting in person.

just enjoy your summer and get ready for move-in!

I liked donlon a lot, and didn’t find it too noisy, but that sort of depended on what part of the hall you were on and I don’t have have much trouble studying with noise anyway. However worst case you can study in one of the several first floor study areas that are always really quiet.

Donlon, hands down! Donlon is so much fun. Even though I will be living in a frat next year, I will def. still miss Donlon. Even though Donlon is hot as hell during the summer and not as nice as CKB, it is much funner.

donlon was so boring. i spend as much tiem as possibel away from donlon. i only sleep there cause its my room and even then i want to leave cause i couldn’t sleep at night because of kids who talk outside and play guitars and bounce balls at 3 am… so annoying

CKB was beyond fun. I loved my suite mates, I loved my floor, I loved my RA.

The CKB community is very open and welcoming. The Faculty in Residence are always walking around and talking to people and asking people how they are doing. They hold tea socials in their apartment and help plan cultural events and trip outings.

The programming board is very active (I was on it) and we planned everything from Niagara falls trips, Syracuse mall trip, weekly art/creative sessions, CKB inter-hall olympics, a Mr. CKB pageant, barbeques, etc.

Not to mention the actual building is new, clean, well kept, pretty, colorful, has hot water, air conditioning, nice neat laundry facilities, and you only share a bathroom with at most 4 other people. It was honestly the best of all worlds.
