dorms: the best and the worst

I'm heading to my first year of college with a single room on the fifth floor of Dickson from Cornell's dorm lottery. I've been hearing a lot about the dorm's different reputations and feels, so I was wondering what everyone thought about the best and worst dorms at Cornell, pros and cons, descriptions, whatever else there is to tell. Thoughts?

anybody wanna comment on donlon?

I got assigned Donlon for this upcoming fall, and at first I was a bit disappointed because I didn't get one of the newer dorms. However, after talking to a lot of Cornellians, they said I was really lucky. A few of them stayed in Mews or CKB and said they wished they were in Donlon.

Just how the rooms are set up made the atmosphere pretty sociable. Most other dorms are set up suite style, which is a bit inconvenient when trying to meet random people in the halls and so forth.

As for Dickson, I've also heard great things about, since it's one of the bigger dorms with open halls as well.

I hear donlon is a crazy pig sty, but at least youll never get bored there hah

I don't know much about Donlon cause I've never been in there but I've been in Dickson and the rooms are pretty decent. A lot of people, busy atmosphere. They do a lot cool of activities in Dickson. Best dorm at cornell is Akwe:kon. lol. but everybody is scared to hang out with us NDNs. too bad cause we have a really cool house and we're friendly.

i've heard that dickson and donlon are the two most social, and that the people staying in court-kay-bauer sacrifice some of the party scene for clean rooms and new facilities. i guess housing is a toss-up, but i'm sure we'll all find ways to live it up next year!!

CKB is awesome too though. You might make closer friends there as opposed to Donlon or Dickson. All are definitely social enough though. It's really as social as you make it. Donlon and Dickson churn out more socialites than CKB but you can definitely be a socialite there as well. Join an house and then appreciate the awesomeness of CKB while weilding social power elsewhere. Even a Donlonite or Dicksonite wouldn't be very powerful without an house to back them...

in every single dorm my freshman year the people within their dorm bonded with their floor/hall/townhousequadmates regardless of where they were located. while the space and privacy situation is different everywhere, the social aspect is pretty satisfying wherever you go. you will make friends on in other dorms and spend time their meeting people on their floor, and people gnerally make the best of their situation. if you are really unhappy, move, i know plenty of people who did.
