Claremont Colleges: Inter-school double majoring?

I'm looking into applying to Claremont McKenna for their PPE program. However, I'm also interested in maybe majoring in Art History. Sadly, AH isn't offered by CMK but I heard somewhere that it is possible to cross-register and double major in IR at CMK and another major at, say, Pomona. Is this true? I looked on both schools' websites and there's no official word.

My understanding is that if a the Claremont school you are attending doesn't have a major, but another one does, you can APPLY to that other school to become part of that major. One gal I heard talk last year was a Scripps students, but majoring in Accounting at CMK. If the school you are attending has the major, however, you cannot major in the same subject at another school.

FYI, it's CMC for Claremont McKenna College, not CMK :-)

You can do a double major with something offered at another Claremont school. I've never heard that you have to apply and be accepted by the other school? But I don't have a lot of insight into the matter. It might make more sense just to e-mail CMC and ask them. But to answer your question: Yes, you can take on another major at another Claremont school if the school you attend doesn't offer it.

As a graduate of Scripps who majored in one subject there and another through one of the other 5Cs, I can tell you that if you want to major in a subject not offered through your school (CMC in this case) you can take classes at the other 5Cs to fulfill the requirements for that major. You do not need to separately apply to each school.

thanks for the responses everyone!
stickypenguin, do i need to go through some special process to take so many classes at another school?

My understanding was taking classes is fine, but actually receiving a degree offered by another school may require jumping through some hoops, but is doable.

Also each school has requirements as to what percentage of your classes can be taken away from your "home school". Check the websites for details.

It should say on the school's website. Pitzer's explains that you can major in something at one of the other schools as long as the major isn't offered at Pitzer.
