I think you have a pretty decent shot at all of them, including Duke, even if that may be a bit more of a reach. Sorry I can’t be more specific, I’m not familiar with SAT scores as well and this is hypothetical! Keep doing what interests you, and it should show through on your application.

woandering, sorry about the delayed response.

Regarding your question as to whether you’ve displayed enough ‘leadership’ traits for Claremont,I would say you’re definitely in the ballpark. I would, however, be wary of putting too much stock in your stated goal of joining a ‘prestigious
business/economics program’ in the summer. Unless it is something you are truly passionate about, and you can convey that sense of sincerity and passion in your essay…in other words, don’t join things simply to pad your resume
(btw, not suggesting you’re doing so…lol!), as that is something that is easily picked up on by the Admissions Committee.

I agree that TopTier’s comments/suggestions were thoughtful and articulate, and would echo those almost verbatim,
for your CMC aspirations. I really think you will decide when you visit the colleges in person.

But first,of course, you have to get in! Best of luck to you, wherever you end up, and stay in touch.

@stagalum Thank you! I cite “presitigous economics/business program” because I have a few I’m interested in, and they’re all hard to get into. I’m definitely very interested in all of them (although there are some I like more), but they’re all around one common theme for a reason.

Thank you again for your responses. I’ll definitely be reporting back in my Senior year, as I start college applications.

Idk if you saw my paragraph regarding your list in my thread, so I’ll post it here to make sure. First of, I would like to say you have a nice chance of getting into the schools on your list. Your GPA is overall great, but it’s not a 4.0. It could potentially set you back by not having a perfect GPA, but of course it’s a very slight problem. Your SAT score is wonderful, no real need for improvement there. But I’m sure you could get a 2400 if you ever decided to take the SAT again, which you were so close to getting. You have a great and colorful selection of AP courses for colleges to look at and be impressed. I would assume you at least got 3’s (passing score)for all of them, yes? For your EC’s, I feel like you should list your community service hours. That will show more regarding how much work you actually did once you managed to get those high positions in your high school clubs and programs. Regarding tennis, hopefully you don’t mention on your actual applications how you felt towards the quality of your skills in the sport (how you “sucked”). I’m sure you could list several more coughambigouscough EC’s on there. This is because your list, though it has quality, could improve a little more in the quantity section. You should refuse to list your race and income level on the apps, for the benefit of the doubt that affirmative action, at least in spirit, still remains. Since you live in CA, like me, how come you’re not applying (at least from the looks of your planned list of colleges to attend to) to UC’s here? I’m sure UC Berkeley and UCLA are prestigious schools for you.

@napkin99 thank you for your response! This list isn’t my entire list of schools, but it does include some of where I most want to go. I’ll definitely apply to UCs, but they aren’t high on my likable list. My ECs are unfortunately everything I’ve done. I never really went for quantity. Again, thanks!

I’d say you have a decent chance at all of them, but Duke would be a mid-reach. Duke is extremely competitive, so that would be your biggest reach. You have great scores and ECs, so your chances at Duke are a bit murky. Best of luck!

Claremont Mckenna - Match
Duke University - Low Reach
Bucknell University - Match
Grinnell College - Match
University of Rochester - Match

@razaza CMC a match! Woah! Have you checked their acceptance rate? I’m just not sure if you guys truly think I can get in, or just don’t know too much about CMC. I’m in doubt anyway.

You have a good profile and your predicted stats are in the range for CMC. While you can’t tell for sure if you will be admitted or not, you have a good chance.

Claremont Mckenna–match
Duke University–reach
Bucknell University–match
Grinnell College–match

good luck!

Great Sat and Sat 2 scores. Ecs are not bad could work a bit more on them but still should pass if your essays are amazing. I like the forex internship, that should give you an edge. Was it like a hedge fund or investment bank? Over all I think you have a chance for the majority. Perhaps apply early to your top school choice to increase your chances,

Claremont High match/Low reach

@lbad96 Chance me please?

Bump :D

@Woandering everywhere but Duke is a match!!

@lbad96 Haha thanks. Are you wondering why I tagged you?

I don’t really know these schools well (except for Duke), I’d say Duke is reach. Rest are high reaches.

@alsa2000: Do you perhaps mean “high matches,” not “high reaches?”

Duke and Claremont McKenna are going to reaches even if you do that well on your SAT. Your extracurriculars are solid but won’t ensure your acceptance anywhere. The other three schools you listed all seem to be very likely although nothing is guaranteed. I would recommend that you find some schools that you think you will enjoy that are somewhere in between the selectivity of the schools you listed

@cthompson3088 Yeah, it’s super hard, though. Do you have any suggestions?

@Woandering What major do you think you want to study?
