anyone in Clark Kerr?

I think I’m going to be in a Clark Kerr triple, kind’ve want to switch at the beginning of the semester to a unit (if I can) only because it’s so far. But hey, if I like the people/my roommates I’ll stay!

Is anyone going to bring a bike for the commute to campus? I hear that it’s not a very good idea because bikes get stolen…

I was impressed by the number of bikes I saw on campus during a visit a month ago. Specifically in the Engineering/Science area near Cory Hall & Evans Hall & the Bechtel Center. The campus if very steep so it seems like taking a bike uphill is just extra weight while going down hill it is too dangerous because there are sooooo many people walking around.

However, maybe the bikes are convenient for going off campus for a meal or for commuting from an apartment.

Clark Kerr Seems Really Awesome. I created a FB group with Pics and Vids: [UC Berkeley Clark Kerr Campus Class of 2014 | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

yeah i got assigned to clark kerr standard triple
not really happy about it, since it wasnt any of my top choices
i think im gonna try to switch to a unit later on
but i dunno we’ll see :)

anyone have any information about clark kerr? never been there

As some one who lives in the area and who’s first choice was clark kerr I can say that from everything I’ve seen and heard clark kerr is the best dorm choice. It is far but they’re are regular buses and it takes less then five minutes to make the biking trip to any point on campus. Bike theft I’ve heard is a problem but as long as your smart about where and how you lock it you should be ok. It’s also the closest to the Elmwood district and is pretty close to Telegraph. It is the most spacious, nicest dorms since they’re all basically brand new, and most importantly for me apparently the most social with the chillest RAs.

yeah i heard that its the biggest/newest dorms so i’m happy about that
but i also heard that its mostly for athletes, since all the sport facilities are there
which sucks for me since i literally dont even play one sport … -_-

Does anyone know when we get our room/building assignments?

As an avid bicyclist (both on and off campus), I have that while it may be difficult/scary at first, you will eventually get used to it. It’s kind of like how it’s kind of scary to drive the first time you get your driving permit, but it eventually becomes second nature. The difference is that you don’t need a license to ride a bike.

There are rules as to how fast you can go down hill. Yes, you are supposed to use your brakes tactfully and keep it under 15mph on campus paths. You learn to gain situational awareness so that you don’t hit people.

At the same time, you learn how to use gears to make biking uphill more managable. You will build leg muscles that make a seemingly impossible ride a breeze. It used to be near impossible for me to pedal up Hearst Ave, but these days, with the lowest gear, I can do it slowly (@ 7mph-ish) with moderate effort.

As a CS student, it may be a long bike up to Soda and Cory hall near the top of the hill, but there’s nothing like zipping home downhill to my apartment in 5min after a long day, whereas a walk would be closer to 20min.

i lived in clark kerr last year. i thought i was really amazing and well worth the price. Most of the buildings are renovated. building 11 and 9 are suites and the renovation have just been completed. I leaved in building 4 in a triple. I was really spacious and new. there was enough room for all the beds to be on the floor. there were several rooms that were really nice compared to the others like some of the corner rooms had private bathrooms or walk-in closets. the only building that i think isnt going to be new or relatively new is building 12. but even if you get building 12 its still nice because has the kitchen and a weight/exercise room. you wont know which building you get until the day you move in. if you have any questions feel free to ask
