Hi, so I'm enrolling in classes right now. I have gotten straight A's in my high school classes and I attended a relatively rigorous math and science school. I have heard that college classes are much more intensive than high school courses, so I have to ask:

Is taking math 155, chem 102/104, bio 110/111, span 201w, and a First Year Writing Seminar too much? I believe the total is 18 hours.

You’re not going to want to take so many hours as a first semester freshman. You’ll probably want to spend a lot of time making friends, exploring campus and Nashville, etc. While I think your course load is doable, I think taking such a heavy load would require a lot of studying, which may come at the cost of your social life/free time first semester. Perhaps such a course load would be appropriate in later semesters, when you are more settled and comfortable at Vanderbilt. I’d recommend dropping one course, and taking 14 hours instead.

Honestly, as a rising sophomore, that is a very heavy load and you will probably regret it. I agree with zmoose27 and only take 14 hours. Remember, you’ll have 2 extra labs in addition to the 4 lecture courses, each of which require work. I would advise only taking math 155, chem 102/104, bio 110/111 and a fws your first semester, then taking span 201w the second semester instead of the fws.
