Senior Superlatives - Worth Putting on App.?

It’s no academic award, but I wonder if it’s worth putting on an application for top 25 level schools. Is it seen as something like Who’s Who? If so I guess I’ll just forget about it.

I was voted most intellectual by my peers, btw.

Thanks.

I was voted most likely to succeed, but I certainly wouldn't list it. It seems like you're fishing for stuff to make yourself look better. It's based on the opinion of a bunch of high schoolers.

No, superlatives are based on opinions/popularity, and usually not reflective of one's true inner self. Trust me, I'm dumb as a nut, but was voted smartest.

i put that i was voted "class einstein" it shows that you have respect from your peers.

either that or they think you are a dork

i agree. so what if your friends/peers think you're most intelligent?

Yeah, better to show respect from your peers by mentioning some leadership positions or student council or something.

Alright, that's pretty much what I suspected. Thanks.

whatev-i can't change it now

[edit: i am a dork...]

Who cares? It can't hurt...BTW I was voted "most academic" and put it down on my app. Rabo: how do student body leadership positions show any more respect than superlatives? Student gov't offices are complete BS and decided by some mix of popularity and people simply voting on a whim based on some spurious or random reason. You might want to omit something like "most likely to be abducted by aliens" or "biggest goofball'' from your application but anything along the lines of most academic or most likely to succeed should be listed.

Leadership positions imply that you actually do something. Senior superlatives are more BS than student gov't. Half the time, the yearbook ppl just assign superlatives because no one voted that person to be anything.

Yes, but at least the people in student government offices do at least a little bit more than people with Senior Superlatives

I'm on student council, and its a reflection that your fellow students like you and want you in that position. Sure, anything that is voted upon by other students may not reflect upon ability, but student government does reflect on how well you get along with your classmates etc.

And student council at my school does a lot of stuff that makes it worthwhile. I'm mentioning it and elaborating on what exactly I've done. If you don't mention specifics for student gov, you'll be like everyone else who just writes it down.

The yearbook superlatives are something completely different then student goverment, so don't take up an 'award/honor' spot for something like that. You don't actually do anything for it, unlike student government. I was voted for "Best person to be stuck on an island with" lol.

I was named "best female hair" and owner of the "best kept car" (we have best car and best kept or cleanest)... not exactly something I would put on my applications.

I would say, no, don't put it on you apps.

I put elected Homecoming King by my peers.....Do you think that was a bad idea???

i don't think it'll hurt you

I think it's a bad idea to put things like that in your app, except if maybe you find a way to get them into your essays. That's the one place I could see it fitting, but don't force it. Something like that will probably have absolutely no effect on your app.

I got 'Best Eyes'. I am so putting that on my college application.

Do not put superlatives, no matter how flattering. It is just filler.
