Class is full but does not offer a waitlist. Is there anyway around this? Talk to the professor or sit in on class hoping someone drops out? Any suggestions?

I think it depends on the class. Is it a big CORE class or for your major? lol i’ve never been in this situation but I vote for the latter, sit in on the class and wait for ppl to drop out, because people always drop classes in the beginning of the semester.

Wow, I assumed all classes had waitlists? If it’s a class for your major, I don’t know if your academic advisor can give you any ideas. Certainly emailing the prof to show your interest and to ask for suggestions is a great idea; you should do it soon, so that you’ll have a chance to followup midweek next week if you haven’t heard about it. Otherwise, go to class the first day and talk to the prof then. (But getting your name recognized via email and then talking to face-to-face is always a good thing). The prof may not be able to do anything specifically, but s/he can give you an idea about how many people usually drop the class, etc.

Definitely go to class on the first day. A lot of times they will let you in if everyone doesn’t show up.

Oh yea, another thing, the department itself might be able to help you and open up another spot for you if the prof itself doesnt help. I’ve known a few instances of this happening when a class for Justin, an amazing calc + diffeq prof filled up and someone just went to the math department, asked them to open up another spot in Justin’s class, which they had no problem doing! lol

I had this problem with a chemistry class, emailed someone and got this:

Best to sign up for different sections.

Contact the department UGA (advisor)… he/she should be able to arrange something (Math UGA did for me).

Thanks for everyone’s help. I didn’t expect this many replies!
