Class of 09

I'm going! Anyone else? (Rhodes hasn't sent me a link to an accepted student site or anything, and i'm getting desperate to meet SOMEONE who'll be in my class...)

oh dear, this forum is so dead. is anyone out there still interested in rhodes????

Yes - my daughter will be applying there next fall. She has a friend who is finishing her freshman year there, and I'm hoping they'll get together this summer to discuss.

Congratulations on your Rhodes acceptance - it's a fantastic school with lots of opportunities for its students. And you get to use a brand new library!

I am still sorta grieving that my S won't be going to Rhodes after all. He is happy with his decision, but I truly feel that Rhodes would have had everything in the world that he needed to become what he is intended to be. And he would have been five hours away from home! (Yes, that does play into my feelings.) But I am keeping it to myself (and you, my CC friends.)

Don't worry , Hyacinth, there are a lot of people out there who are very interested in the college. More and more, I would say. Three students from S's school will be there next year, including one of his really good friends.

I know someone who is a soph at Rhodes and is very happy there.

My S also plans to apply to Rhodes next fall. Hyacinth, please post about your experiences when you go there because there really are people here who are interested in Rhodes! :)

D will most certainly be applying in just a few months. Rhodes has stayed a consistent choice since her first visit spring break of sophomore year.

In just a few months? Yikes, the time is upon us!

Daughter saw her friend this weekend who just finished her freshman year at Rhodes - said that she is really enjoying it and has offered to house daughter for overnight.

Can you say "slumber party"?LOL.

D pointed out that little "in a few months" line to me this weekend. I am not nearly ready. She's right . September is a little over 3 months away.

I'm planning on attending Rhodes in the fall too, and I am really excited to hear from another student headed there. I only know a couple of people going there from a scholarship interview, but I'm sure that there will be plenty of awesome people going there.

Carrgo, congrats on your (and their) choice! What is your homestate? Was your scholarship weekend successful? I know of one other scholarship recipient this year and she received a very nice scholarship without the scholarship weekend, and without a separate app. Were you a Bellingrath candidate? Do you know anything about the stats of scholarship winners this year? (Don't feel obligated to share yours or if so , not in depth .) D would like to attend, but like most $ are a concern.

Well, I'm from Texas, and I was a Bellingrath finalist. In fact, I am a Bellingrath recipient. Well, I do not know exactly who the other 2 recipients are, but all the finalists were really amazing people. So, here are my stats:
SAT - 1560
rank - 14
GPA - 3.98/4 5.6/6.0
extracurriculars - student council president, French club president and various other clubs.
My biggest advice to a student applying scholarship is to work on writing a really interesting essay that will stand out to the admissions counselors. They really like to offer good money to qualified students, so your daughter will most likely get some sort of offer. I hope that I was of help! I'd be glad to answer any more questions about the Rhodes application process or scholarships.

carrgo, D is from Texas and she is not the only other Texan CC'er looking at Rhodes. Y'all will have to have a barbeque if everyone makes it to Memphis (remember Memphis is pork barbeque, not beef like out here. LOL.) Other than the Bellingrath (congratulations-what an honor), what , if anything, would have tipped the choice in favor of Rhodes? What other schools did you consider?

What did the other finalist get?

Well, I had a really good feeling about Rhodes from the moment that I walked on campus. It was just so beautiful, and I liked that everyone lives on campus. Not the mention that all of the students that I met were really nice. The personal attention that the professors give is also very important to me.
My decision came down to Emory, Rhodes or Plan II at UT. I was also accepted to Baylor, Trinity, and American University.
All of the finalists leave with a very nice scholarship. They at least get $19,500, a Cambridge Scholarship. They can also tack on a little more or give a larger one if they are impressed in the interview.

carrgo, D has visited twice and it remains at the very top of her list-tied with Centre (ahead when she insists on a connect with a hospital), in her reasonable match schools list. I can really see her attending and loving her time there.

I'm going to Rhodes too! Hooray for class of '09! I've heard that next to TN, TX is the state that contributes the most students to Rhodes. We shall be in good company.
Has anyone gotten information yet? I'm still waiting for all the forms and roomate stuff, and I'm getting kind of worried. Is it just me, or have they not been sent out yet?

I haven't received any information yet either. Don't start to worry just yet.

hi carrgo and junebug! i'm so excited to finally see some people who'll be in my class. what are all of you thinking of majoring in? I declared myself as an english major...but i really like philosophy, too. and i'm also interested in theatre. Anyone else?

Well, I'm in the international studies department. So far it looks like Asian Studies and Economics.

can someone from the class of 09 please post when he or she recieves anything from rhodes? I'm getting rather worried... :/

I haven't recieved anything yet either, but I will let you know when I do!
