What's it like?

I'm considering Rhodes and I just wanted to know about the students there, the work load, what things there are to do in the area etc. Any info is great. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any Rhodes students or parents on these boards. My daughter is applying there - it's a gorgeous campus with good academics and internship opportunities. She has a friend who is a sophomore there, but other than hearing that she loves it and has a great dorm room, I haven't heard anything.

There isn't a livejournal community for Rhodes, there is a small blogring on Xanga, and I'm not sure if there's anything on myspace.

Hi puddin,

I think Rhodes is a great place. S1 applied there last year, ultimately went elsewhere, but we were all so impressed by Rhodes. They have a lovely campus, compact and unified, friendly students, a rich history of academics (I hear the students work pretty hard!), and a great new library. I hear that one of my son's good friends from high school is having the time of her life at Rhodes.

Loren Pope's Colleges That Change Lives has a chapter about Rhodes. You might want to check it out!

Fireflyscout, I am glad to know your DD is going to apply. I wasn't sure if that was still the case!

Yes, Rhodes is definitely on the list (I think it's one of her top 3 favorites at the moment) - but she better get the application done!

D has applied and we have visited 4 times. Three times? Jeez, I'm losing it. The wonderful new library, beautiful campus, great live music venues, the Memphis Grizzlies, a phenomenally successful minor league bball park, internship opps at St. Judes, great merit aid, did I mention that the campus is beautiful and safe feeling? It is truly a fine looking school. How does it "live"? I don't have the foggiest. If accepted and the $ is right, D will overnight and hopefully get a feel for it.
