There was a previous thread where last year's applicants introduced ourselves, so why not continue the tradition? Haha if you want to post up some stats<--there's the place to go.

It's gunna be a long ride from now till our ED & RD NYU decisions come in so lets all get settled in and introduce ourselves! Get to know the competition a little, haha.

Um well I'm just another Asian guy from Queens, NYC. I'm applying ED to Tisch Film, I'm fairly confident about it, but it's NYU so you never know. It's been my dream school for a mad long time now and I would be the happiest little boy if I got in haha. I get chills about NYU, just a little obsessed lol.

What come on! The class of '13 aren't a bunch of antisocial bastards are we?

cheers Introduce yourself! Introduce yourself! My name is Neici, yeah! I go to school, yeah... /cheer (Sorry, cheerleader at heart)

Not positive I'm going to apply yet. But if I do, NYU Stern for Actuarial Science. I'm a black girl from Michigan, and I'm scared that I won't fit in at the school, or I won't afford it (very likely), or that there won't be enough handsome straight guys to date if I do accept. lol.

No, some of us are just antisocial b!tches...jk.

I'm a little blonde girl from Minnesota just hoping to make it into the big city. For anyone who has ever been here, they can testify to the blandness of the midwest. I know what you mean about the chills, I got those too on my tour of NYU. But I've known I wanted to go there since my older brother's tour six years ago. I'm applying ED to Gallatin, but I've heard thats a tough school to get into so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Oh, and msneicirenee, I have the same concern about straight boys, I've heard they're kind of rare at NYU.

I'm the white guy from the Massachusetts suburbs whose ideas of living in NYC are largely lifted from too many viewings of "Sex and the City". I'm probably applying ED to Steinhardt for Communication, my dream is to do PR.

Oh, and the male sexual orientation ratio at NYU is no problem for me :p

Hey hey hey! There's plenty of straight guys at NYU, I'm gunna be there! Haha lol actually my girlfriend is black and one of my exes was blond or at least bleach blond. It's all good! The love goes around.

Besides who goes to college for sex and drugs and alcohol? Pffh we're here to learn! Right...?

Lol nice majors. Do you know what your concentration is going to be wrldtrvlr? I heard Gallatin values good writing skills above all else, like the personal statement

And I almost forgot, my name's Chris!

Okay, bimachris. We see you got the straight part. What about the handsome? lol. Just playing.

My name is Abe, and despite the fact that I play the viola, I am a straight male from Long Beach, CA. Its pretty close to Los Angeles, so I would like a change of scenery, to say that I have lived in the two major epicenters of the USA. I am applying to Stern, planning to double major in finance and marketing. idk if I will get in, and if I do, unless I get the millenium gates, I wont be able to afford it [stupid nyu FA]. But yea, does anyone know about the party scene at nyu? Like, obviously nyu has lots to offer, but how about actual college parties?

Wow, I can't believe I forgot to mention what my intended major was. I'm thinking of calling it "international journalism and media communications" because that kind of encompasses everything I'm interested in. I'm hoping that post graduation I can get a job in either a foreign country as a journalist or stay in NYC and do PR or communications for a network. There are so many things that I want to study though, so I think Gallatin and I would be perfect for each other:)

I think I have really good writing skills (and this semester I have 4.5 hours everyday of writing classes) so I'm hoping to right a kick ass essay.

msneicirenee: Oh ****, you got me. Haha so what is Agricultural Science exactly? Sounds like tough stuff.

Abe: Aw that sucks. I've been looking at a crapload of outside scholarships too, including millenium gates. But the one for Asians lol. The party scene? NYU is a huge party school, almost everyone drinks and smokes at NYU haha. I don't smoke though, hate smoking. Kids go to night clubs and bars all the time, there are a lot of parties at clubs in NYC that are just for college kids. You meet kids from other schools in the area like Hunter and Fordham and the New School.

I can't wait to check out the party scene at NYU, it's Manhattan so it'll be crazy. Along with all the Tribeca film stuff and internships. I mean I've from New York City, but I haven't even fully experienced Manhattan cause I'm from Queens, so it'll even be new for me haha.

wrldtrvlr: That sounds good. Damn 4.5 hours of just writing classes? That's crazy, I wouldn't be able to do that haha.

bimachris: Actuarial Science, is really a math thing. (Agricultural = farm and stinkyness) You pretty much use a lot of statistics and math to figure out risks for companies (mainly insurance companies) and for some finance companies.

wrldtrvlr: 4.5 hours of writing classes per day? I barely get that much in a week! (Even though I'm taking 4 math classes this semester 1 HS and 3 college, so I feel your pain.)

Oh I was about to say, lol before I was like "agriculture? At Stern?! ***!" Haha that makes a lot more sense now.

I hate math, don't let this asian face make you think otherwise. I'm so glad that Tisch doesn't require math classes, BFAs FTW! All I have is one semester of Math B 3/3 this year (I think this is only in NYC but it's basically the most advanced stuff you learn before Precal; yeah I'm very slow at math haha) and no more math for the rest of my life!

hey! I'm Arianna, I'm from a suburb of Philly, and I am applying to Tisch for Musical Theater :)

Hey Arianna! Another East Side Tisch-applicant! Oh yeah! Haha welcome!

Musical Theater, that's CAP21 right? Good luck, I heard it's one of the tougher studios.

haha sounds good. I knew that NY had lots to offer, but I never knew nyu for partying. lol. Yea, theres less competition for the latino one, but I really have no clue how fierce the competition is. How are nyu girls, if anyone knows?
I find it fascinating that you live in nyc and have never been to that part of town! Thats cool, I did not know queens was so far from greenwich or manhattan. haha, my geography of nyc is lacking. How about frats, that are not professionally oriented?

My school does this really messed up block scheduling system where you only take four classes per semester and you have each one for 1.5 hours per day. I signed up for three writing based classes hoping they'd be spread over two different semesters, but the school scheduling system screwed me over. I hate math; can't stand it. I'm signed up for AP Calc AB this year though, and will absolutely die during second semester (The average grade in that class is a D, and this is AP kids we're talking about, the kind that don't even believe that such a thing as a B exists).

I've never heard of NYU as a big party school, I've only seen comments on how much of a party scene is lacking there. I'm not much of a partier, but I think I could go for clubbing. Does anyone know anyone who has actually attended NYU, and knows first hand what the party scene is like?

I want to know about party scene at NYU, too. But seeing how this is the Applicants to NYU thread. None of us probably know. To get a response from current students, start a new thread. Most may not be on the class of 2013 one.

Abe: It's a huge scholarship thing but I think it all comes down to your essays. Haha I'm sure NYU ladies are fine, there's so many of them! Lol NYC's pretty big, sorta like all the counties in LA but bigger probably cause each borough is like an island. It takes me about 45 minutes to get to Manhattan from Queens through the subway. I mean, I go into Manhattan a lot, but I don't know it like the back of my hand you know? And I certainly never experienced the nightlife haha, that's where NYU comes in!

wrldtrvlr: Wow AP Calculus AB? That's what all the other smart asians besides me are taking. I'm like two years behind that level of math, haha heh. That sounds like crazy scheduling, at my school we just take about 7 courses for the whole year, 45 minutes per period. Except we're like 3000 kids overcrowded so everyone gets out of school at different times, it's pretty screwed up.

What! NYU is such a party school! Are you kidding me?! Lol well I mean I guess there aren't much of those traditional on-campus frat parties but there's so much clubbing going on!

hey guys i just wanted to let you know that i'm a freshman at NYU i just started classes today actually and this whole past week we had welcome week. during that whole week everyone was going out to clubs, apartment parties, frat parties, all kinds of things. we've been having so much fun, there is SO much to do. i would say it's a party school but it's different because even though people party, people are smart and care about school. that's what is so cool about it here. and even though it's only been a week i absolutely love it here. yes, people complain that there's a "lack of community" and honestly i was scared coming because i was reading all those negative posts like that. however, i have come to found my own community and if you get out there you'll find people like you and network. everyone's mostly sociable and i honestly feel like i'm already in a community and haven't felt lonely yet. so if you're worried about "lack of community" because we don't have a "campus" or a "football team", realize it's not that big of a deal. you're in one of the coolest parts of Manhattan and things are always going on. also, nyu puts a lot of events together that are really fun to meet people so if you're worried about being alone, you're not. your class is 5,000 + people, everyone is everywhere!

Thanks piratepenguin.
