Class of 2010!

Next year's seniors!

What classes are you taking next year?

Colleges are you planning on going to, or are sending requests to?

Extracurricular activities do you engage in?

What are your fears/expectations for next year?

I will start:
Classes--AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP Government, AP Literature, CIS, and AP Spanish Language.

Colleges (I hope) are-- Va Tech, Clemson, Penn. State, Uva, and Finally MIT (yeah right though).

My Extracurricular activities are--BETA Club, Anime Club, Marching Band, American Red Cross, Governor's School for the arts (9th and 10th grade years), Pruden Center (11th grade year but not next year), Volunteering at a soup kitchen, and finally working at a movie theater for 1 and 1/2 years.

My fears--that I will have horrible AP Teachers who don't know how to teach and I will fail the AP exams.

Expectations--Ready to be out of that crazy school!!!!

Discuss!!!!!!!

Classes: AP English, AP Spanish, AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, some electives that will depend on scheduling.

College visits: 1) Cambridge for Harvard and MIT, stop by Cornell along the way
2) Central NJ for Rutgers and Princeton
3) Pennsylvania for Swarthmore
There’s no way I can get to California, but I’m pretty sure I’m also applying to Pomona, Claremont McKenna, and Stanford.

Activities: Academic Decathlon, tutoring, dance class. Some other stuff that doesn’t take up too much time.

Expectations: Awesome classes/teachers :). Representing NJ at AcaDec nationals again (hopefully <3). Mental health days with my friends. 8DD

Fear: Not getting into the colleges I want to get into. D:

Hey don’t be afraid of having horrible AP teachers and failing the AP exams~ At least it doesn’t matter for college apps? Relax a bit for senior year eh? =D

Classes: IB English, IB History (20th century topics), IB Physics, IB Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, IB Spanish, IB Theory of Knowledge. Also Calculus III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra at local university

College visits: 1) Cambridge for Harvard and MIT - did that at spring break
2) Duke, UNC-CH, NC State, all less than 30 minutes drive so will probably get to that soon
3) California - Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford, may take a trip this summer
I think I’m applying to NC State, Duke, UNC, Chicago, CMU, Cornell, MIT, and a few more out of a huge list I need to narrow down

Activities: Band, soccer math club and tutoring are my major ones. Several academic teams as well, some other minor stuff

Expectations: A lot of fun, great teachers, and a MUCH easier year than junior year :)

Fear: The month of December. College apps, end of the final semester that really counts, IB Extended Essay, I won’t be sleeping that month

The month of May will be awesome. I will go to class maybe once or twice because of exams.

^I’m trying to convince myself that I won’t get into any college. That way I won’t be disappointed when I’m rejected and I’ll be extremely ecstatic when accepted. (Not ben very successful so far :D)

Classes: AP Bio, AP Physics C Mech, AP Lit, AP Spanish, H. Grecian Philosophy, AP Art History. If I can’t take AP Art, then I’ll take that over the summer. Otherwise, my math will be Calc III over the summer.

Colleges: not finalized, but MIT, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, UCLA, Cal, UCSD, Duke, Penn. I did all my visits last summer so I’m good.

Activities: same as last 3 years

Fears: April 1

Expectations: working really hard until getting (hopefully) accepted somewhere. Then I’ll get even lazier than I am right now (being done with AP’s and all).

Quick Stats: White, male, upper-class, Central Jersey.
GPA: 95.4 UW / 103.6 W. PSAT: 233, 229. SAT: 2250 (retaking).

College visits:

 1. Have visited: Rutgers, Princeton, UPenn
 2. Will visit (summer): Harvard, Yale, Columbia, maybe UPenn again haha

Expectations: Will kick ass and take names. Assumedly salutatorian, improbably valedictorian. I am a conscientious worker and look forward to finishing high school.

Fear: Not getting into Princeton. I’m pretty confident I’ll get into good schools based on my friends’ EC’s and stats (Duke, Cornell, etc.), but HYP are reaches for everyone.

Expectations - Senior year is gonna be a blast, so much freedom (only 70 kids in my grade), top of the school finally (6-12 school), president… Yeah.

Fears - Calculus and Advanced Bio? Yeah. Haha. Not getting to just hang out with friends enough.

Classes: English, Chinese II, AP Comp Sci, AP Calc AB, AP Physics C Mechanics

Colleges: I’m doing visits this summer b/c my ECs and some other stuff didn’t allow for visits before - I will be visiting Columbia, Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Swarthmore, MIT, Harvard, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, and Smith. I know I will be applying to UCs for sure…

ECs: Ballet (takes up a ton of time; v. committed - both outside of school and a dance group thing at school), tutoring at a local (very underprivileged) elementary school, summer program with the Joffrey Ballet, and this summer I’m doing the Summer Science and Engineering Program at Smith College…oh, and studying Hebrew on and off outside of school…

Fears: Not getting the classes I want, having to leave my high school (which I love, unlike many people here!), and not getting into the colleges I want…
Expectations: I think senior year is going to be really fun!

joshcasto: Strange, also from Central Jersey and going to Boy’s State. I live like 10 miles from Rider’s campus, so the drive will be like nothing for me haha. Maybe we’ll be in the same city if your username matches your real one (I’m Br-). Where do you live in the “dirty jerz”?

TON of other little things

Expectations: A LOT! Last year in XC, we finished 4th in the state as a team with no seniors, so everybody is coming back and we are expecting BIG things. In this there is XC Camp in the summer (greatest weeks of my life), trip to RI for an invite, maybe regional (Northeast) championships if we decide to go. In track, I’m hoping for an individual sectional title in the Mile (4th this year, top returner).
Off the track, I just want to enjoy senior year as much as I can. I already know I’ll be going on the senior trip, and I just want to make the best of my last year here.
In terms of colleges, I’m pretty confident on most of them, except for UNC and UVA. I don’t want to go into specifics, but I know my scores and such are more than good enough, and I’m extremely confident in my essays and recommendations. I just can’t wait for senior year!

I believe U.Va, CWPU, Syracuse, One of the following: GMU, JMU, or CNU, and finally my uberduber safety: Radford (I can make honors program there no problem lol).

I’m always changing where I want to go though. U.Va always remains on the list as my first choice.

Extracurricular activities do you engage in?
Key Club, maybe German, technology club thing (doesn’t even have a name), Volunteering, yada yada, nothing big.

What are your fears/expectations for next year?
