Class of 2011- Sound Off!

dear nurseypoo and all....
don't forget
for all the beauty
we have
traffic
congestion
long drive commutes
traffic
crowded stores
congestion
traffic
smog
traffic
obscenely overpriced homes
traffic....

so I hope this helps the wounds I've created!
:-)

My older D is in Irvine - yes, beach areas have lots of traffic. When they don't have traffic, they have megga traffic. No matter how you slice it, traffic is part of the game when you're in that area.

The obscenely priced homes are amazing - how do young families ever afford the American Dream? They all move out to where the Joshua Tree's house the Black Widows and snakes roam. . . ! Then they commute to work, compounding the traffic issue!

Nurseypoo - I bet you have rattle snakes too, don't you? We do, not something to brag about, is it?! D talks about getting her boots at AF Orientation and wearing them in by running in the open brush - I reminded her of the rattle snakes - that was the end of that idea! Of course, can't think of better footwear to be wearing in the event of such an encounter!

They are the Mojave Greens! Nasty little buggers. I have a story. It's short:

(clearing of the throat). Once upon a time, in an AF base 35 miles away, there once was a policy that single AF chaplains had to live in BOQ's, except the priests ('cause they didn't get married).

However, they figured that each officer housing area should have a clergy, in case of disaster (plane crashes, the sort). Thus, they opened up housing to all military clergy, married or not. Our housing area was blessed with a wonderful chaplin, who happened to be afraid of snakes; deathly afraid.

One was found by his dryer vent (trying to get warm); sirens responded. One was later found on his back porch; once again, the sirens. A few weeks later, he went to step out his front door, and there lay another one, minding his own business, just waiting to talk to his military chaplian. No lie, you could hear the screaming before the sirens.

He moved shortly after that to another house. The funny thing was, the rest of us NEVER had snakes showing up at our houses.

Poor guy! :D

Congratulations all soon to be Plebes! I got my appointment a while back and sent in all the paperwork on my background check etc... Long story short, has anyone recieved their actual orders to report for I-Day yet? Call me impatient, and I know it will be roughly June 27, but I just wanted to see if anyone has actually recieved their orders following their Appointment packet yet?

Robido, relax....they won't come yet...expect it in mid to late May.
In the meantime wear a USNA sweatshirt everywhere and stay focused on your high school activites/grades. Congratulations!

Robido

Last year the permit to report letter and all the fun stuff with it was dated April 5th. (He was appointed in November and Accepted appointment in late Feb)

The letter that came with alpha number and Company assignment was early June.

Congrats and enjoy your senior year!

Robido-

Congratulations! Hope to see you there! Peskemom's right, it'll come.

I got in, but I am waiting on a final review of my medical status. Damn those remedials!!!! I'm kind of scared, but I will be mad at myself if I turn an offer like this down.. I'm here for the challenge. I'm going to visit sometime in March--- did the visit really help you guys secure your decision? Anyone else visiting in March? Anyone hail from Illinois?

Heather

My son went to NASS; it did help him cement his decision. It was the only place he wanted to be.

hpals23

The cvw helped my plebe make his decision. He had gone to sports camps and NASS but still took his time making a final decision to attend and did not send his acceptance in until after his cvw. This is big and if you need time and more information to make a well informed decision then take the time and seek all the information available, you owe it to yourself!

Scared is normal, it tells me that you are really thinking this through. Mine was scared right through IDay. Beleive me it is OK!

Enjoy CVW.

Heather,
My son attended CVW this weekend and really enjoyed it. Although he has been completely positive he will accept an appointment if offered one, his stay at the Academy this weekend certainly made him feel even more confident about his choice. As his parent, I know it made me feel better about his decision to know that, after witnessing a bit more closely the life he would be leading for the next few years, he was more excited than ever! He's been on several campus visits, attended summer seminar and, of course, done tons of reading/research on the Academy but CVW was both informative and enjoyable for him, really. He roomed w/2 very nice plebes, one from NAPS and another straight in from high school.
We would definitely recommend attending if you can.

Thank you all, I relized it may be a while since decision day isn't untill May 1, but I'm just a bit impatient is all, thank you all very much.

Tip for all those on there way here. The academy is a struggle, in more ways than one. Ask any of the moms/dads on here that know me and you will hear of my struggle. Be upbeat, however don't be super motivated and come to candidate visitation weekend wearing only USNA gear. While we all understand that you are excited that you got in, wait until you have been here for a bit to show such enthusiasm.

However, by all means Congratulations! Welcome aboard and tough it out!

No new appointments in the last two weeks? What's up?

I received a phone call from my moc that I was offered an apointment. I am a little confused by hpauls23 comment "I got in, but I am waiting on a final review of my medical status." I assumed that is what the loa was for and that once you receive your appointment and nothing "new" happens than you are in. Is this correct?

I got a call from my congressman's aide that I got in too, but I'm going to wait until my candidate visit in April (12-14) before I make my decision (west point or annapolis)

My son received his appointment to USNA on 20 February 2007 but is holding off on making a decision until he hears from MIT.

I got my official appointment in the mail a few days ago! I also know of at least 3 others from Kentucky that have appointments.

Hey like2bsailing--

who are the other 3 from ky with appointments???

These aren't for sure, but Nathan Liversedge, Anthony Walker and Scott (can't remember last name.) All of them live near Lexington, I live near Paducah. We all met at GSP at Bellarmine University, so i'm assuming there are probably other appointees from KY.
