Class of 2012 -- heard anything?

Is syracuse university MT different than syracuse university (in upstate ny?)

With respect to "reading into" the actions of an auditor, when my daughter auditioned at Syracuse, a few bars into her ballad (By The River, by Maury Yeston, a song with heavy emotional content and imagery), one of the auditors leaned over to the other and audibly said "She doesn't have it." You can well imagine what my daughter felt at that moment. Turns out my daughter scored very, very well on her singing. To this day, we don't who it was that didn't have "it" (whatever it was) but the comment clearly had nothing to do with my daughter's singing. So you really shouldn't read into an auditor's reactions, facial expressions or even words. You just don't know what else is going on at the time. I certainly would not let an individual auditors unexplained conduct be determinative of whether to attend a school, particularly if on all other measures you think the school is a good match and a plus.

stacie...
This forum is discussing the BFA in Musical Theater (shorthand: MT) program at Syracuse University in upstate NY, the one and only Syracuse University. This is a program within the university that one must audition to get into.

Does anyone know when te next wave of letters might go out? I'm guessing I'm not going to hear until later this month (unfortunately).

My S contacted the MT department yesterday. They indicated that they are sending out their letters/emails in 3 waves. The second wave will go out this week and the third wave will go out next week. I am not certain, but I think that they send them out in order of when the kids audition.

No, I don't think it is according to audition dates.

I agree with NotMamarose--my D auditioned mid-January and has not heard a peep. A co-workers son auditioned in mid-Feb and received a rejection letter last week. Go figure. All I know is that I am a wreck but my D is calm, cool, collected and quite frankly not worried....too busy getting ready for her HS spring musical...:-)

I got my into the musical theatre BFA on February 18th. I got an email and a day, maybe two later I got an actual letter. I'm visiting this weekend so I'm pretty pumped!

I guess you were EA or ED to Syracuse--I thought the visiting days were next month?

Oh no, I was actually regular decision, I'm just going up on my own visit and shadowing some people I know that are already in the MT major.

How do the people you know in the MT major like the program there jcd9? Any feedback you can provide?

They absolutely love it! They say they are challenged everyday and are getting exactly what they wanted from the program and a lot of opportunity. They seem like a really tight knit group which is always good. I'll let you know more after this weekend, I'll be spending a lot of time with them!

I can't believe I still haven't heard yet! I'm growing so impatient. Does anyone know when the third wave will hear?

I think the third wave is supposed to hear this week. I still haven't heard but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven't heard yet either. I am on vacation in NY right now and arrive home on Friday; I'm hoping to find some good news in my mailbox when I arrive.

Just got off the phone with the drama dept and admissions---D auditoned mid-January and we have heard nothing! I was worried maybe they were missing something. In any case they looked her up and said she was in the final wave, and to keep an eye on both e-mail and mail over the next week to 10 days....AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Hoping no news is good news this late in the game??

kellysmom I'm pretty much hoping the same thing. I called admission dept. and got the same answer. apart from AMDA syracuse is my only hope .. I didn't get into Ithaca's MT :( ... I'm praying for syracuse though

erroberts--did you audition anywhere else besides AMDA, SYR and Ithaca? We are still waiting to hear from auditions at Emerson, CMU, NYU Steinhardt and Syracuse--got into Wagner MT, which is definitely a good option, but Syracuse is her most desired right now...

my D auditioned in mid October and still hasn't heard! She got into NYU tisch but not Wagner! I really like the Syracuse campus better than Manhattan!Did your daughter get the music scholarship at Wagner ?? My D got the scholarship although she didnt get MT. SO she's not as keen on Wagner now..

Hi-D got into both Wagner's MT and Vocal Performance (BM) programs---she wants MT, but I guess her audition for the music scholarship prompted the music dept to offer her a spot as well. Admissions called and asked her what she preferred--no question MT--and they said they would send out her scholarship info. We have yet to receive that. I am "thinking?" she is going to get the music scholarship, but again, nothing in writing yet. She was "blown away" by the talent at Wagner auditions (only time she had to audition in front of the other students trying out). Was NOT prepared for that at all and felt she bombed in her monologue, did OK in vocal, dance was not an issue (she was on the fast-track ballet route until freshman year HS--Boston Ballet ect., dance is very strong for her). I just can't believe we are at the end of march and we have 4 more schools to hear from!!!!
