Class of 2012, how far are you with college apps?

I have done nothing as of yet.

I’m actually slightly freaking out as I just realized that August 1 is exactly two weeks from today. And since I’m in Driver’s Ed, I completely misjudged the time I have to write essays. Time for late nights! Yay, it’s almost a return to normalcy :)

Haven’t started!

I finished a draft of the essays for one of my schools. I’m going on vacation soon so I’ll start the Common App and the others on August 1st or 2nd.

Not very far… I ordered some common app essay books, and I started brainstorming “why” reasons for one college.

Not very far lol…
Wrote a resume though… I’m waiting for August 1st though.

Wrote numerous essays, but none of them were good enough for me to keep working on them.

Finished my resume and asking for rec letters. I’ve started brainstorming for essays now, and it’s a pain. I’m so desperate that I’m starting an essay with “I grew up without much of an identity.” -_-

I started on personal statements… and that’s about it (:

Ah, right, I asked for rec letters before school ended, but my school has a process for that so it’s kind of a given.

Finished all of my common app and supplement essays/mini-essays. I’ll have to rework a few since some schools are changing supplement prompts, but most of the schools I’m applying to won’t really switch prompts such as “Why X college?” and so on.

finished my common app essay. haven’t done anything else really.

I’ve done absolutely nothing

I’m glad that there are others like me who are too lazy to write essays during summer.

My r

I read On Writing the College Application Essay by Harry Bauld. It was very helpful. I’m following his advice and keeping a journal of mental ramblings… hopefully I’ll be able to write two common app essays this summer that I like (I’ll probably need two “anything” topic essays, and I want to write a bunch so I can give them to people and have them tell me which ones are best).

I’d recommend the book to anyone who is intimidated about the essay process. It’s a quick and humorous read. It’s really old (1987) but still seems perfectly relevant. Contains plenty of good examples. Helps you avoid common pitfalls. Provides a method of finding neat topics that you’ll be able to write about. Emphasizes that you can just write something that is good content but “bad” writing and revise the crap out of it.

I have not done anything, aren’t you supposed to wait til the fall?

^ You can start the process whenever, but many CCers are applying to school EA / ED and want to get everything over with as early as possible so they won’t be scrambling around the time of deadlines. Same with people who are applying RD.

I’m done with common app essays and the potential supplements. I have yet to start studying for my last round of standardized tests, though. :(

If you get your essays done during the winter, your fall will be a lot less stressful.

^ That’s really ahead of the game!

Don’t think I’d write any essay much earlier than now. You’re still growing as a person (and a writer). That said, I’m slowly plugging away at some supplements before I tackle the big guy. :)
