when can i expect to recieve the bill for the 1st semester?

hey justin,
im planning to take the college linked insurance plan while at Laff. However I still haven't recieved any material about applying for the same. could you please help and tell me whom I have to contact about this?

ryanshroff,

You should expect your semester bill to arrive along with your housing information. Domestic students just received these items, so rest assured it's on the way.

An enrollment form for Lafayette's insurance coverage, which is required of all int'l students, will come with the semester bill.

Justin,

My son received his room assignment - and he got his first choice - Keefe! Would you please let us know the bathroom situation in Keefe? Does he need one of those shower totes? Thanks for your help.

Nancy

Nancy,

I'm glad to hear your son got his top choice! Keefe's the best -- I'll be in there myself on the fourth floor.

All the restrooms in Keefe are lockable, which is unique among the residence halls. Your son will need to bring a shower caddy in with him each time he showers, as there's no place to store items in the restrooms. The caddy need not be huge -- for most, shampoo, body/face wash, and a washcloth is all that's necessary.

Thanks, Justin.

hey justin
What is memo balance in the bill??

mohak,

Memo items are those items (mainly loans and outside scholarships) that could potentially have unfulfilled requirements. More often than not, you can simply reduce your semester bill by the memo balance to find out how much you really owe the College for the given semester.

Many students will not have a memo balance. If you are referring to the paragraph on the bottom of your bill and note no memo items, the issue does not concern you -- simply pay the current balance by August 8.

Justin

well my bill does have memo items at the bottom . and its a loan (milligan). what is unfulfilled requirements? should i use it on my own?

mohak,

When you first received your financial aid award letter, was this Milligan Loan included? If you did not refuse any parts of your award package, the College assumes you have accepted this loan.

FYI, this is a special type of loan funded by the generosity of Gladys and Frank Milligan, both '34 alums. It may or may not require you to submit additional paperwork. Since this loan isn't issued through some governmental body, I'd think the simple act of accepting it fulfills all requirements.

Just to be safe, email the Office of Financial Aid at financialaid@lafayette.edu to ask what is expected of you.

Justin,
Which dorm is it that students do not need to bring a shower caddy? Am i correct that one of the dorms has bins in the bath/shower rooms?
-mary

Mary,

Some of the dorms have cubby holes in the restrooms, while others do not. Restrooms servicing a larger number of residents typically do.

Which dorm do you have in mind?

FYI, even for those restrooms with cubby holes, many residents still choose to carry their supplies in a shower caddy.

I was wondering about South Hall restrooms my son will be in South. Do you recommend any type of shower caddy over another?
-Mary

Mary,

I'm not sure if the restrooms in South have cubby holes. Regardless, your son would need a shower caddy -- he'll either keep it in a provided cubby hole or in his room until he's ready to shower. The ones pictured here often come with handles and serve their purpose well: http://www.stacksandstacks.com/image/23111_bu.jpg.

Of course, there's also the issue of other people possibly using your supplies (as gross as that may sound). If it were me, cubby holes or not, I wouldn't keep my supplies in the restroom for that very reason.

Justin

Good point, Justin...yep, it is gross, but you're right, it may happen! Thank you for the link too.
-Mary

Justin,
Im in ruef this year. Just wanted to confirm that ruef doesn't have carpeting right? if not do u recommend getting a small carpet or runner for the room?

Ryan,

Correct! Ruef does not have carpeting. I'd definitely bring some sort of area rug to warm up the room.

Hi Justin. I'm in Keefe this year! I was just wondering, do they have bathrooms in each dorm or do we all share one ? Coz I remember seeing a photo of the room interior with a sign indicating bathroom before.

nancyli,

In Keefe (and most of Lafayette's dorms), each room does not have its own bathroom. The bathrooms are shared among residents, though in Keefe, they are lockable.

If you look at the floor plan provided by Res Life (http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~reslife/floor_plans/plans/keefe2.pdf), on the section to the right, you'll see the bathrooms marked "toilet" (2 mens, 2 womens).
