This is my extremely long list which has yet to be whittled down (final list will be about 17-18). Arranged by preference and in order of decreasing chance of rejection (the ones I’m not definite about applying to are in italics):

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone complain about Middlebury and language in the same sentence. Isn’t that what they’re famous for? Just out of curiosity, what don’t you like about it?

Oh, no, their language programs are amazing. It’s just not so much a fit. The two main things Middlebury emphasizes are language/international studies and environmentalism. I find both important (planning on studying a language and I find nothing wrong with environmentalism), but they aren’t so much what I’m looking for in a college (I’m attracted to the themes of intellectual rigor and social activism of Swarthmore and Bowdoin).

That said, I may still apply to Middlebury, since I did enjoy my visit.

Safeties: UT, Baylor
Mid- Reaches: Rice, Johns Hopkins
High Reaches: Cornell, Duke, UPenn
Also doing questbridge where I will apply to: 1.Yale 2. UPenn, 3. Brown (there application is sooo long…) 4. Northwestern 5. Rice

Toured at Amherst but couldn’t make the info session. Campus was nice but there is surprisingly little to learn when the tour guide is too busy talking about stuff you already know like how there’s wifi everywhere on campus and how you can get books from other college libraries if Amherst doesn’t have the one your looking for and how the classes are discussion based and there’s an open curriculum. I’ll have to go back someday, maybe if I get accepted, to form a full opinion.

So my new list of colleges I’m applying to in their tiers:
Swarthmore / Bowdoin / Yale / Williams
Brown / Vassar
Bates / Colby / Amherst
UConn

Decision will probably come down to finances (or rejections). That would make it easy, at least. But I hope one of my top 4 is an option. Need to find another safety.

I decided not to apply to more because Berkeley is pretty darn good already (prospective math or physics or CS major) and this year is going to be busy.

University of Southern California
Loyola Marymount
University of the Pacific
Santa Clara
Chapman
Some match schools outside of California
and some California State schools. :)

University of Notre Dame
UC Berkeley
Kalamazoo College
Elon University
SUNY Binghamton
UC Riverside
Cal States

Kalamazoo, UC Berkeley, and maybe UCLA are part of the Posse Foundation whose scholarship I was nominated for. Therefore, if I win, I choose one of them (I’m more inclined to Kalamazoo than Berkeley; I’m not sure about UCLA).

University of Notre Dame is my dream school <3

Elon and SUNY Binghamton are schools that I never visited but I’m pretty sure I would be happy in for four years.

UC Riverside and Cal States are my safeties.
