Who is excited to be applying to Boston University. We have six months to get our stuff done. I am so stoked to be getting to know you guys in the months to come. Who knows we may even become great friends as well.

BuBound09

P.S. If you guys have anything to say feel free to post!

Too much money? I think you may be suprised with what BU give you. (Is that an accurate perception, current BU students?) Either way I am not going to let money solely dictat my decesion on where I spend four years of my life and that's the bottom line. Is anyone applying ED?

Yea im appyling to northeastern too. So far these are the schools that I am interested in:
1.Union
2.WPI
3.BU
4.Case western
5.howard
6.flordia am
7.rowan
8.umass amherst
9.va tech
10.u del
11.binghampton

Im probaly going to major in mechanical engineering, but minor in business. What other schools are you goes applying to.

I plan on majoring in international relations
I am applying to these schools
george washington university (early decision)
northeastern
boston university
fordham university
penn state (saftey school)

Sorry, but Penn State is harder to get into than Northeastern, BU, and Fordham. You may want to rethink your safety choice. There are plenty of people that I know that just applied to Penn State University that had BU as their super safety. I don't know that any of them that into Penn State but rejected from BU. If my friends/people I have spoken with in these threads aren't a large enough sample size for you, you may want to just look at the rankings. PatM1401, Penn State University Park is the highest ranked school out of your entire list. Anyway, best of luck.

Penn state is only hard to get into if you are applying for engineering or business. I doubt that their international relations is that competitive. Also if you look at his location, he is from PA. So therefore it would be easier for him to get in.

Also Penn state might be the highest ranked school on his list (according to who, GWU is way better in his major then Penn state is), but their is way more to think about in appyling to college (social life, academics etc).

I don't mean to rash on you, but I personal think your statments were out of line.

I'm also really excited to be applying this fall! I'm still not sure if I'll attend if accepted though.

But I'm applying to a diff. range of schools:
Boston Univ.
New York Univ.
Penn State.
Rutgers: New Brunswick
Michigan State
Fordham Univ.
Univ. of Delaware
and Syracuse.

Bostonman2009....i agree with you totally....jec7483, i am assuming you live outside of pa because penn state is a farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mor easier school to get into than the other schools i mentioned.....and your friends must have lived out of state and must of had bad resumes......sure penn state is one of the best public state schools in the country...howeverrrrrrrrrr, the rranking of a school does not reflect its admission rate....if you look at the schools i mentioned penn state by far has the highest acceptance rate %...its 55%...plus im planning on majoring in international relations, which is not competive whatsover at psu....also i live in pa

Also PatM1401, you seem to like the Boston-area. I highly suggest you look at Tufts. They are really strong in international relations and in the Boston-area. If I was you I would visit theU.com and watch their campus videos.

PatM1401, you obviously, as I can tell from your location, live in PA. The problem is that you PA kids are spoiled and see too many morons going to branch campuses. It gives you a jaded view of the university. Living in PA, you are going to see a lot more people getting into PSU than BU, but in Boston I am sure they would be more excited by an acceptance to PSU than BU. Yes, I am out of state, so I have seen the opinion of PSU when you leave the state. Just like most states, peolpe of that state take it for granted due to personal aquaintances that they feel were sub-par that got accepted.

"Also Penn state might be the highest ranked school on his list (according to who, GWU is way better in his major then Penn state is), but their is way more to think about in appyling to college (social life, academics etc)."

USNews was the rankings that I was referring to. Were you thinking when you wrote this? A large part of the rankings are based on academics, as well as many of the other important factors that normally play into college decisions, and Penn State is definitely above GWU. Also, I am not sure how you could put the GWU or BU social life above Penn state, since it is ranked the #6 party school in the country. The ranking does not reflect the admission rate, because that has NOTHING to do with the education you receive at the school. University of Puerto Rico has an %18 acceptance rate, but it is not on par with Dartmouth(the school right below it at %18.5)

I don't know where you're from, jec, but as someone who actually lives near Boston, BU is held in much higher regard than PSU, and the typical reaction to "I got into Penn State," is, "that's nice, but where do you really want to go?"

Of course, BU's not exactly considered a pinnacle of higher education, but we're all cynical anyway.

haha PSU is not a competitive school. 6 six kids from my public, rather crappy, out of state high school went to PSU in my graduating class. Not to mention the 20-something who were accepted. In my experience PSU is something like a Rutgers. Just an okay, really big state school that most people have as their safeties and others because they don't really know what they wanna do.

This are about the types of responses I would expect from people that attended or plan on attending BU. DJGlover, then your experience is wrong. Plus, all of 6 peoeple?!?!? Four of them were probably going to branch campuses. Funny, I have spoken with people from Boston and they say the exact opposite from what you say ZamZam. "Oh, you go to BU? That's nice, couldn't get into BC?" That's how the conversation really goes. Penn State University Park is a destination, not a fallback safety of the area like BU.

In 10 years the opinions of BU or PSU kids will not matter. It seems as this forum has turned into "my horse is bigger than your horse" or rather my current school is better than your prospective school. Grow up! If this is what I have to look forward to, then screw it. I am going to KU!

thanks...yea ive looked into tufts....its, like you said, one of the best for international relations....but honestly i dont think i would have any chance getting accepted there especially with my SAT scores
