Class of 2013

Hi, Class of 2014 here.
Hopefully either brown or dartmouth bound.
Good to see tht I'm not the only one in the class of 2014 here.

Niiice, I wanna go to Brown as well :D

Oooo thanks tetrisfan!! I'm researching those now.

So far I have (not in order of preference):

Princeton
Brown
Harvard (wasn't too enthused about there but they have a new course that I've fallen in love with)
Yale
Northwestern
Amherst

maaaybe UChicago but they have really annoying supplement questions and I'm having to write a million essays as it is so maybe not.

And I randomly decided to look up MIT and realised they have courses that aren't sciency, and their theatre/English ones look really good so I might decide to apply there. I don't think I have much of a chance getting in but who knows.

Wow, ultra top-heavy. Good luck.

Badminton finals Malaysia world no2 vs China world no1. And I don't have the bloody channel on my TV. Bah.

OH NOOO you don't have the channel?! That sucks!

portugueseninja, be sure to get some safeties!

Unless I hack into a Malaysian Channel... ehehehe..

Blahhh my dad won't hear of me applying to safeties in the US. He says that if I screw up in the first round of admissions, Australian universities are my safeties. I don't have anything against that, but I'd still rather go to college in the US than in Australia.

Nadash: what, a Malaysian cable channel? We have like eight channels or something showing the Olympics :p

Miraboo: I'm the same... dont really have any safeties in the US but just found out that I can actually defer the course I want to do here... thought I couldn't cause the lady from the university told me I couldn't... but she was weird, like totally wrong. Anyways...

So why do you guys people want to go to US colleges?

Because I'm a gender studies nut, and I want something a wee bit smaller than canadian universities.

So, um, I'm Monia, class of '13, french canadian stuck in Rabat, Morocco, planning on applying to Reed, Wesleyan, Bryn Mawr, Smith, MHC, Lewis + Clark, Barnard, St. John's College (MD), Hampshire and perhaps Bates....

sighs I need more low matches.

everyone seems to be applying to so many schools
I was only going to apply to
USC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (First choice by FAR!)
UCLA
Brown
Columbia

MHC is mount holyoke yeah?

Yep, MHC = Mount Holyoke College.

Eh, we have to apply to so many schools if we want to get FA somewhere... The sad fate of int'l students XD

technically i'm not international... just live overseas so its all messed up... so irritating

I keep getting mail from MHC but I go to an all girls school now and have been for the last basically 6 years so I was like nooooooooo more girls schools.... drives me NUTS doesn't teach you how to socialise at all.

Welcome, Monia! Good luck with your schools!

I don't really have any safeties either, beeish. I don't know of any that give full need based financial aid to internationals. If anyone has any suggestions then I'm open to ideas! Any on the west coast as well? All mine are on the east.

Hey tetrisfan, thanks for mentioning Williams ansd Middlebury, I looked at them both and they look great! I have a friend doing grad stuff at Middlebury and she loves it so yeah, nice one.

Monia, I like your picks.

Heh, China trashed everyone, badminton and table tennis. Yeah.

2013....hopefully Cornell bound!

its not like anyone else had a chance at table tennis!

World no.1 and world no.2 in doubles team together. Sends chills down my spine. Wow.

AAAAARGGHHHH noooo Chong Wei lost! Grr. Ah well, at least we get the silver so our flag is FINALLY on the scoreboard!

Back to the topic of college: my dad, I think, is one of those backseat parents. He just called me this morning to tell me what to put under my activities on the application ("You should put MUN and the production. I don't think tae kwon do will count at all." And I'm a brown belt!) and what to write in my essays. I think my responses were, "Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. I know. Okay. Can I go get breakfast now? Okay. Yeah. I know."

^ Haha that's cool. I educate my parents about this process; they know zilch! :p
