Do you guys think Brown’s acceptance rate will go way down or possibly go up next year?

I’m definitely going to do ED. Do you think that will help acceptance rate wise? I really love brown and can’t see myself anywhere else because I love its philosophy so much. Advice?

This is not the time to be asking about the class of 2014... no one even knows this years stats yet Lol.

Chillax and enjoy the rest of your Junior Year You'll have plenty of time your senior year to flip out over getting into Brown.

Yeah, I never expected to see a class of 2014 thread pop up. Your junior year is a time of preparation, not obsession.

There's plenty of overlap to be seen you know?

@Brown 14,
I'm not all that surprised that there are already 2014 groups--ED applications are going to be mailing in less than 8 months from now. It's good to start thinking about college admissions, just don't let it take control of your life this early in the admissions cycle.
I know where you're coming from, I was obsessed with analyzing all the intricacies college admissions starting around the summer before junior year. That being said, I was the outlier, and everyone else at my school (including most sane people everywhere) thought I was crazy for doing so.
So, I suggest to you, do your homework, look at Brown's common data sets for the last few years, and especially for this year once they publish it (I think it will be in late summer but I'm not sure), but definitely keep it in moderation. Don't obsess. There's definitely a significantly diminishing marginal utility in obsessing with college admissions.
All in all, best of luck to you.

i'd say it'll go up. meaning the acceptance rate will go up.

especially after this year, brown will have had a year to prep for the larger application pool. who knows, they might try to admit more students next year.

and also, 09ers were reported to have the largest class in history. it's supposed to slowly go down after our year. i believe we're the peak of the baby boomer children generations.

how i love our luck 09ers....
don't you love the days when you could get into these schools with a 35-45 % acceptance rate?

Class of 2014 is smaller than Class of 2013.

Also, the economy might get a bit better, hopefully, by this time next year which should help.

So, yeah, you should have a very slight advantage over 2013 applicants --- but it won't make a huge difference at a highly selective school like Brown.

A word of caution about applying early decision: On paper, yes, the acceptance rate ED is much higher than for regular decision. But you need to put that acceptance rate into perspective. Many of the ED acceptances go to athletes and legacy applicants. Also, the ED applicant pool tends to be stronger. I think if you adjusted for those variables, you'd find that the actual acceptance rate is not much higher for ED than for RD.

One of the real benefits to applying early is that your application is read with 2000-3000 other applications as opposed to 22,000 -- smaller pool, you might get more attention.

As for next year's acceptance rate -- one unknown is whether this year's huge increase in applications was a fluke, a one-time blip, or a trend. Even if it was a blip, and fewer students apply next year, you'll still see acceptance rates under 15%. No matter what happens, Brown will be very difficult to get into.

Not to scare you or anything, I heard admissions is suppossed to peak in the 2010 application cycle because of the baby boomers... it is suppossed to start going down after that. But who knows? Every application year is full of surprises.

Anyway, like others are saying, do not obsess about getting into Brown. I used to be the same way (I used to obsess about Harvard), but then I realized there were so many awesome colleges out there. It is important to keep an open mind on colleges. Obviously, try your best to get in if it is your top choice, but do not let it ruin your junior year.

Enjoy your junior year and the benefits associated with it! High school only happens once...

haha seeing this thread is so ironic now. with 22% more applicants to just ED, i think the class of 2014 is probably the peak.

those who have already applied this year are class of 2014 aren’t we… :o? because we will go to university starting in 2010. ??

I KNOW!! A 21% increase–it’s crazy!

poorplayer, yes, we are the class of 2014, but this thread was started in March of 2009, and so RD results for the class of 2013 weren’t out yet.
