Should I bother applying next year?

So I want to apply ED to Brown next year. I feel a little discouraged right now. I feel stupid posting a chance-type thread, but I am worried.

Please tell me if I have any chance at all.

SAT: In process of taking it. Final score will be between 2050 and 2100.
ACT: Predicting a 30-31.

AP classes: 1 now, 3 next year.
Rank: 16, and going down.
GPA: 4.0 unweighted.

Extracurriculars:
-Varsity swimming 2 years
-Academic team-3 years, co-captain
-Math Honor Society- 3 years, president
-FIRST Robotics Team- 2 years, officer
-National Honor Society- 2 years

Service:
-100+ mentoring children
-50+ tutoring my peers (been doing for 3 years)

I am mainly worried that my classes are not hard enough. I know my test scores a just a little bit low, but I can work on them. A schedule is irreversible.

Thanks.

Definitely give it a shot. Admissions is a c rapshoot anyways, and you never know whether the admissions committee will smile favorably upon you.

Give it a shot, bring up your grades if you can, and write an essay that makes it really really clear how much you love the place and what you can bring to them.

plumdum is right, though—so many kids are applying to so many places, it is really difficult for the AOs to choose from so many good candidates.

So you’re saying I could actually get in? I mean I have all A’s and great everything except for a few more AP’s and tests. I will definitely apply to other places, too.

I would also say you should apply. there is no way of finding out whether you will be admitted unless you actually apply, so give it a shot.

Definitely apply! My stats were somewhere around yours and I was waitlisted. I was 100% sure I was going to get rejected, so you really never know!

Truthfully, if you already have many other applications to do or have to choose between applying to Brown and another less rigorous school to get into, you might want to consider not applying. It seems like a long shot for you to get in to Brown just based off what you’ve written. However, you may have other credentials or ECs you haven’t mentioned that could put you closer to the realm of being admitted to Brown. However, based off what you wrote, I doubt you would get into Brown.

Q: Should I apply?
A: If you’d like to go there and have $80 handy, yes.

ALWAYS.

I have a 3.2 UW accumulative. Should I bother applying? I also have a paucity of leadership roles and awards.

Oh…wow…a 3.2 GPA? I’m sorry, but I don’t think your chances are high…at all. If I were you, I think I’d look at a school that is a tad bit less competitive and selective and ED there instead, raising your chances a little.
