do you guys know what to do if you’re studying the toefl yourself. I’ve got 3 weeks, and i’ve hadn’t even thought abt it until now.

ccprofile, you just gave the toefl? Congrats! i wonder when i’ll be able to put on my seatbelt and race through the subject test preparations…this toefl is a great distractor.

Even 1 week of practice is sufficient. All you need to do is get accustomed to the test. So, don’t worry and best of luck. Personally I took only 3 practice tests and two of them were on the day right before the test.

if CR score is needed…then there is no choice but to give the toefl at this moment isn’t it. i mean the SAT is in october and november is 1 or 15 is the deadline for the ED.
so toefl has to be given before SAT isn’t it?

you really are the most helpful guy in this thread ccprofile…great compilation.
i think everybody will now understand abt the toefl requirement.

@ccprofile did you try colleges last year?
I donot know any other website than what you already know. And besides I feel books are the best medium for practising. I love scribbling on the books a lot.
Maybe you can download some softwares, just google SAT PREPARATION SOFTWARE TORRENT.

@gurung: No, I didn’t apply to colleges last year but have been here on cc since last year.

@illuvia:Yeah I took the SAT Reasoning last year to see how it goes and I’ll be taking it again this year. And about NIEC well, everything was okay and stuff but I did have a few difficulties with the earphones in the middle of the Listening Section. It happened all of a sudden and as soon as it stopped working I called the person there and he changed it for me. But this, I think, could happen almost anywhere. Other than that the place was small and there weren’t that many peole either; only 6 test-takers including me.

Computers were okay as they should be and as for disturbance well you can’t do anything about that. For the Listening section you could turn the thing to full volume and you won’t hear anything else around you but be warned if you do that then you won’t hear anything else for the rest of the day either ;).And if you are worried that you might get distracted in the middle of the Speaking section then there is a way to deal with it. You could shout at the top of your lungs while speaking. I did that and it worked well but I feel a little sorry for the person who was sitting beside me.

And yeah a little info on Spiny babbler will be appreciated here as well.

Funny you asked about NIEC. I had scheduled my TOEFL test over there. And on the day of the test I ( along with 30-40 others) had our tests canceled because the exam server at NIEC was unable to upload the answers. The guy at the test center assured us that our tests would be rescheduled and ETS officials would ‘personally call us’. Well, they didn’t. At least not in my case. So I had to call Prometric Testing Center ( that handles TOEFL and many more exams) based in Singapore and set another test date and center. I finally took the test on the day of ED deadline. Fortunately the college still accepted it ( the TOEFL score, not me).

Apart from the fact that the test center nearly ruined my 12000 rupees, I had other gripes with the exam center. more specifically the exam setting. The sitting was no different from a regular cybercafe. Not even a damn separator.

BTW, I remember this man who was among those of us whose tests had to be rescheduled. He was also there the last time a test had been cancelled ( due to power failure then). Hope he was luckier the third time around.
