***Class of 2014 NMSF Qualifying scores***

In the past years it has taken until Friday for schools to receive their packets. I would definitely be okay with an earlier arrival date however!

Waiting eagerly for the first reports…thank you ahead of time for those who will report here, because our district won’t notify students until the end of September, argh! I’m glad for the folks in this group who can help ease the anxiety :stuck_out_tongue: .

DD got 221 in NY, which is higher than recent cutoffs, but tied with a cutoff from 2007 (I believe). So we’ll see.

My daughter is homeschooled, so the letter (if she gets one - 215 in Ohio) will be mailed directly to us. I will post as soon as possible when and if it arrives. Tomorrow maybe?

Hoping . . . and enduring the torture.

Even when the schools receive their packets, it doesn’t mean they will announce it right away. Some schools wait until school is in session and announce it a week later as they are busy with everything else. Though, if you are borderline and / or know you qualified, then it would be a good thing to start your essays now so that when it is announced you will have time to finish everything in a timely manner. I think everything is due around the first of October. But some schools want to receive the information from the student earlier than that so they can write their letters of recommendation.

Does anyone know, or recall from other threads, whether the letter to the schools provides the individual state’s cutoff, as well as the list of students for that school?

Where would I be able to find the prompt?

This is the only time where I’m putting all my faith in Florida’s terrible education system. Pls jesús let me qualify

@Atypical - as I recall, there was some process whereby you were given some login info by the NMC and then created an account as a NMSF. After logging in, the essay prompts were available. I think last year, son did one where he was asked to discuss a disappointment or failure he had experienced. Kind of standard open-ended interview questions, and there were a few to choose from. Really nothing together too worked up about.

No, it seems the schools just get their NMSF’s and from info that we can work out the cutoff with multiple inputs per state.

But of course there was the curious case of the “book with every single NMSF” one parent got a hold of last year. See below from last year’s thread:

Ah, the mysterious book I can explain, as I have seen it with my own eyes! I refer to it above, but to save anyone from having to search for it – the universities receive a copy of a thin book, with names and contact into for every NMSF. Unfortunately for us, the release date for the book is around the same time as the Press Release Date; this year, Sept 11.

How it was sent to an individual, in the past, is anyone’s guess. Sounds like a wacky mistake.

commended cutoff in 07 was 203; given that it is 203 this year, looking at 07 cutoffs would probably be the best indication of this year’s cutoffs

Ugh I do hate the waiting! DS missed it by one point 2 years ago and DD is sitting right on the fence. Our HS will call the NMSFs down to the office on the PA so she is carefully (and hopfully) listening to each announcement for her name. By contrast, DS found his unsigned Commended Scholar certificate on his desk in his homeroom later that fall. Quite the consolation prize!

Good luck! I have a 220 and haven’t even gotten a certificate yet lol. Hope California isn’t too harsh this year

Hmm. Do they recycle prompts, or do they have new ones every year.

My son got 226 in California. But we didn’t get to choose 2 colleges in April. Can we choose the colleges later?

The homeschoolers or those already in school will probably find out soon and maybe someone will post them on this site for all to see. That’s is the best way to find out.

Only semifinalists and finalists get to select the two colleges this year

^^ Yes. You get the opportunity to pick now when NMSF application is filed to get to next level.

Come on homeschoolers!!!

^I posted in their forum asking that they please come over and post their scores here as they receive them.
