Just be patient and try not to clutter this thread up. The USPS is slow as dirt and most mail is dilivered after 12 pm

Does anyone know where the semifinalist qualifying score thread was moved to?

I don’t think there is one atm

Moderator’s note:

The cutoff thread and qualifying score thread are considered the same topic.

They have been merged.

Our DS got a post card from a top 20 LAC yesterday. It said “Congratulations National Merit Semi-Finalist.” Don’t know exactly what that means, but is it possible that the PSAT qualifying scores have been sent out to colleges? (He scores about 5 points higher than last years qualifying score for our state.)

Glido - I think so. Collegeboard pays more attention to helping their partners’ marketing efforts! I think the colleges already know who to market to if they are targeting NMSFs.

Congratulations to your DS.

Still waiting to hear in Ohio. My DD got a 216 (last year’s score was a 212), so we’re hoping she’s got it. She is a wreck though, with the waiting. Fingers crossed that we hear soon!!!

DD 215 homeschooler in Ohio. No letter today.

Disappointed but still hopeful.

Suzysmom,

Will you let us know whether or not you get the notification today? I don’t know if your mail had already come when you posted at 11:15 am.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I will definitely post. My DD goes to private school out here, and they don’t start until September 5th (?). If I haven’t heard from her GC by tomorrow morning, I’ll call the school. Whenever I hear, I will absolutely post! Good luck to your daughter, LGLmom!

Thanks, Suzysmom - best wishes to your daughter, too. Your DD should be fine - as you have probably seen, Ohio has never jumped more than 2 points in a year in the recent past. Let’s hope that pattern stays true!

Son has 227 in Ga. Just waiting for the official word.
Last year the principal had it on his desk for 3 days before the counselors told him to announce.

Has anyone logged into the National Merit Scholarship website to see if it shows online? I am going to ask our son to log in after school.

NMSQT website still has last years release dates. ( class of 2013)
So irritating…

“Has anyone logged into the National Merit Scholarship website to see if it shows online? I am going to ask our son to log in after school”

I dont think they post it online at this point. My son got a 230 here in Texas so surely he is in. Our school is very rural but I am the Supt. so I will post when we get the notice but I bet it is next week.

Just thought I would let you all know that I spoke with someone at the NMSC and she verified that the information was mailed out on Tuesday to schools and homeschoolers. She said that although state cutoffs are not posted anywhere online, the packets sent out on Tuesday will list the cutoff for that particular state. So homeschoolers can hopefully post that info soon.

The lady at the NMSC was extremely nice and patient. I appreciated it.

Don’t be alarmed if your school chooses NOT to let you know until mid-September. That has happened in the past at many schools. Some schools like to announce it live at a school assembly in front of the whole school.

To the person who is already receiving emails from Liberal Arts Colleges…
If you are offered special interviews from top LAC’s Head of Admissions, then respond immediately and get on that extremely ‘short’ list for when they come to your area in the fall. Otherwise, if you ignore the request and, then, later wish to do an interview with that particular school, you will most likely get an interview with an alumni. Better to get the interview early with Admissions without the expense of traveling.

And, in case you haven’t figured this out yet…
Some schools will set up interviews in your area and, unfortunately, it will be a First come/First Served type situation because of limited space/interviewers.
So make sure your emails get sent to your smart phones/iphones because it has happened in the past when a college will send out the “alert” around 5 PM and everyone is doing after school activities, etc, and the first students to respond get the most desirable date/time.

Personally, if you are too busy with school/activities/work to check your messages on a consistent basis, you may want to see if one of your parents can help you on this one. You really don’t want to drop the ball on something so important.

sorry - was reading too fast on national merit website… I saw the semi finalist login but did not realize it was for class of 2013.

My son got 217 from CA, so he may not get the NMS, but he is eligible for corporate scholarship from my work.
Do they send the corporate scholarship information at the same time?

One more question.
I see two categories on NMS Foundation website
Outstanding Participants Referred to Colleges (about 3100 ) and Semifinalists (about 1600)

Who get selcted as Outstanding Participants? What is the cut-off for this selection?
Thanks
