Make sure ur SAT score is well enough before the board even if it means giving it 2-3 times. SAT II can be given at the time of May (probably coz, this is the time when you sit for your exams but do see it doesnot clash with your schedule). SAT II does contain some extra stuff than HSEB, so try to prepare atleast 2-3 months for it (aim for 2400 in SAT II …many students do get such scores…, that would be good for you)

I can also understand how hard it is to get involved in ECA’s in the valley. Some suggestions

Google: Today’s youth Asia, Spiny Babbler, Social Action volunteers, Room to Read in Nepal…

They are actively looking for volunteers, apply.

Also try to come up with your own projects. quiere’s are very much impressed especially when you initiate things on your own and travel outside (national or international destinations) for your ECA’s.

The thread is already on…
Nice work guys.

@ Gurung
Thanks.The sites might also help me…

oooooooo…finallly its here. @ the starter of the thread… hey I too was in GGIC for one and half year. Maybe I know u and great work broda. So guys are aware of study and career. I sympathy to those who r still ignorant about all this.

Can anyone help me???
While filling out the college forms if we show that we can pay for the full fees does it hamper our chance of getting scholarship?
Can any1 list some of the most affordable or more scholarship giving colleges/univ for engineering?

^^ if u’re asking for a need based aid, it does… if not it does…
if u’re up for engineering… there r very limited options… all the engineering unis r like super tough and there r very less LAC’s (trinity, laffa, mudd, swat, union) offering good financial aid so for engineering DO APPLY to some state unis and their merit aids… you may even have to pay the application fee but do it!!!

EDIT: don’t miss BYU!!

and as everyone has said before…a gazillion times…
WORK ON YOUR ESSAY!!!
and number one tip:
DO NOT SECOND GUESS WHAT THE ADMISSION OFFICERS MIGHT BE EXPECTING!
be yourself…totally…if you’re trying flattery (either of yourself or the college), forget it…the adcoms can sense that from a mile away…
write something honest and interesting…dont be afraid to write something outta the box…

ok hope this might be useful to people applying next year…
these are the colleges that DO NOT give significant aid to int’ls…if you’re willing to pay 15K +, then u might wanna overlook this but anyways…these are the colleges i got rejected from due to ‘high financial need’
- Gustavus Adolphus College, MN
- Hanover College, IN
Add others too if you know people…might be helpful to many…

Thanks Sixthsick…

I would have added Depauw here. But it’s really a good school.As I have mentioned before; Depauw asked me to pay 13k. At that time, Lafayette’s ED deferral had made me so desperate to get into a good school…that I called virtually every night to Depauw…trying to cut that ‘pay’ down. I even sent a letter through my father explaining my financial circumstances. I even made an international admissions representative (he was an Indian and studied in a place where I had studied before) my friend through my daily calls. I even applied to some internship programs like the ITAP and the SSRFP there in Feb. But …hard luck…he was wanting me that I get in with sufficient aid…but he said that his hands were all tied down too from a higher authority…To sum it up, at last…they agreed till 9k pay…but then the most I could pay was 4k.

Then, Jacobs surprised me with an acceptance…I am hoping for a good aid there (altho the loan is surely gonna be outrageous)…I have a few more really good school decisions coming up. This also includes College of Wooster (the decision shud arrive by next week). Let’s hope that I get a good offer. I would be really happy if I end up somewhere good with sufficient aid (My preference has always been Lafayette/Stanford)…Let’s see…

Colleges that donot provide sufficient aid to internationals:

1) Gustavus Adolphus College, MN
2) Hanover College, IN
3) Depauw University (ok…if you get in ED…the least youll pay is ^10k)
4) Syracuse University (gr8 school…Go Orange!!!)
5) Virginia Tech (Gr8 one too)
6) Purdue Uni (has its own airbus and railway)
7) University of Maryland (gr8 school)
8) Northwestern (I love Purple!)
9) Bucknell University (15k over)…it even says so in its website!

The list is endless…but these were some schools I found to be really interesting during my research for colleges…at that point of time (naive)…I even submitted some apps to Purdue…hehe…but later withdrew…when I found out it doesnt give out aid to intls.

@ROCKHARDAS
U just listed the ones that dint give u sufficient aids.We(2015ians) want those which gave u and other guys good offers…
Plz…list those too.

10) Drexel University (14k over)… you may think its a safety but BS/MS and Co-ops takes it all and I would have readily picked it over most LACs if it wasn’t for the bucks!!

@sujitbaruwal…just go through the pages of acceptances of 2014 and 2013 and youll get a good idea of where to apply…and the idea of ‘good’ colleges…DO your own research…its special!!!

[Admission adopts need awareness for internationals : The Williams Record](<a href=“The Williams Record – The Student-Run Newspaper of Williams College Since 1887”>The Williams Record – The Student-Run Newspaper of Williams College Since 1887) Raise your hackles.

@Gurung
sorry…its about ur earlier post but …what do u mean by coming up with ur own projects??

^^^coming up with your own projects means…taking some new initiatives all by yourself…rather the waiting for somebody else’s project to join to…One of my friends started a campaign called “Minimally Invasive Education”…Some other friends are planning for their own SAARC meet…things like these…that you do all by yourselves in a group…

@ROCKHARDABS
But how can we take affiliations from other organization,preferably an international.Guess we need that too

@ROCKHARDABS
yeah… wanna know the ans of sujitbaruwal’s qn…

@all, yea affiliations are things that are made out of experience…The more often you attend various programs, meet people of various kinds (personalties/politicians/youth leaders/changemakers), the more you get a chance to be affiliated with things. I would encourage going through many initiatives of Nepali changemakers, meeting with them, and then widening and strengthening your friend circles after that. Just utilise every opportunity that comes by…no matter how small that volunteering opportunity might seem. I highly recommend the internship programmed started by the Today Youth Asia(some media training program, hosted by our very own Santosh dai (power talks…if you know in Image channel)…the place has a office in Babermahal Revisited Art Gallery. Go there…Apply…

I remember missing Guildford forum (where British Council hosts all your expenses to UK for a summit) just because I was late in submitting my forms. Not that I was sure to get in.But still, I missed that opportunity to compete with other students for that one golden chance. Be more aware whats going around. Don’t limit yourselves to your schools. Many people think that I keep too much of interests in other students but myself. That’s true to some extent, but I do that because, I wanna be aware whats going around (not as in a spy thing, but in a good way…you know)

So my point, just be aware whats going around, don’t miss any opportunity that comes by, be on lookout for events (i would say explore them rather)…and yeah draw strong connections…make your friend circles wider and stronger.

to 2015’ers…Read the book: Colleges that changed lives by Loren Pope…especially for those who have Ivy addicitions.the book is so powerful that it made me withdraw some of my apps from some of the ivy schools on my list.
