Class of 2015 from Nepal

^^
at least I am a little bit done with the essay but ED!!! OMG i just dun know now ta i will just give trinity a try even i dun kno anything abt it one guy inspired me by telling his brother’s stat who got into trinity so most probably this chandal will be EDing Trinity… LOL

and yes i am doing a bit new thing here in CC today… i believe that we, CC users, should be bonded strongly. We know each others nick but we aint so nice frenz so what if we all plan for a get together after we are done with all the process… i mean after Jan 15 or Feb 1. Maybe plan for a rafting, camping or anything… What do you guys say??
P.S: Sorry for off track talk.

@chandalsaitan : are u talking abt the trinity guy from NIST ???

@here123
He(chandal) is talking about someone who got in Trinity some years back may be a couple of years or more.If I am not wrong he was from SXC.But not sure though.

@here
i dun kno more about him but i met his bro in USEF and he told me that he had just 66% and 1600 in SAT(out of 2400 though) and the only thing he had was a brilliant essay so maybe i too could get in there… GOD help me out… maybe I too can write a good essay… LOL

The only thing that keeps me daunted is the recent explosion in the number of applicants. The admission process seems aesthetic, but uncomfortable…

An adcom said, “we have 50%+ applicants who have GPA > 4.0, what makes YOU different from the rest?”

@chandal

I don’t think that writing an exemplary essay is by itself enough… Maybe that guy had brilliant ECAs? Maybe he was hiding something? We never know.

Think about it: will the adcom place more emphasis on Academics, that builds up in over 2 years time, or an essay that could… well… be written in roughly a few months (assuming it goes through fine polishing)?

I think the essay serves primarily as a match maker… while it could possibly be a factor of guaranteed rejection, I do not think by itself will guarantee acceptance under any circumstance.

@all
and what do you all think about my proposal in post #1282??
guys cmon suggest somthing so that we can end up not just being CCers but more than that…

@sarbaraj
Thats whay I you kno kinda don’t like this US admissions process… you have excellent academics but are poor in expressing then you end up nowhere near to where you deserve but you have an average potential but you can write well then you get more than you deserve… thats not fair but thats what you go through so the qst: What makes you different? is just a primary focus on this damn essay… when will the Americans realize that we don’t come from such a background where English writing is considered a major part?? We are Nepali… such Nepali who faces difficulty in speaking(sorry for underestimating but thats the truth with all of us excluding some exceptions) how are we supposed to write brilliant essays??

^

I think they understand that well… most int’ls take up Writing 101. When I say a “brilliant essay”, I mean one that is thoughtfully reflective and provides a unique perspective of oneself.

It’s a big dilemma though: you can’t gauge characters by numbers, but the subjective portion of the application can potentially be manipulated to a very big extent…

@chandal:: plan seems good…meeting the text kings would be exciting…u’ve brought a different approach man…ohk…yes frm my side…bt nw, work on SAT guys…if we all get into the good college, then the get-to-get-her can become a jovial treat.

I am with chandal…yes from my side for that meeting plan!

Actually they do realize that internationals have poor english but have you ever thought why are we being made to do everything in english? it is because its the official language of world’s so-called strongest country(most powerful). Keep in mind a fact, by year 3000 A.D almost 98% of the languages of the world will be extinct and the only remaining will be english…I like to call this language a big propaganda!..

@chandal
thats a grt plan! im with u as well…

@chandal
I am also with you for the meeting thing…
@ all
And damn the essay!!!I don’t know about others but I am having a hard time expressing myself in the essay(tried few times but ended up in pathetic essays).Lets hope they take me with my academics and hopefully good SAT scores(faith is everything with hard work) with few ECAs.
10 cheers!!!1

^^ man, why are u worrying? I know what is happening to u. U read other’s essays…isn’t it? Im sure that you read essays of those who got into fine colleges and you are trying to write the essay of that notch in the very first attempt…and every time you write a line, you remember the same old essay and u are distracted…this happened to me…and I suggest you…write the first draft of lowest quality…and then go on revising it…show it to seniors and of course you will for sure land with a fine essay…the essays we see today are not the first draft…the essays that get selected are not first drafts…people revise their essay from so many sources…don’t worry…just keep on writing…and you will surely land with a great piece of work!

@confidential
I too go with you… the revising thing and first draft thing… but i m having a hard time getting a very experienced person edit it… no more addition required i guess but edition might e so i dun kno any editors even though i kno a lot of seniors they dont edit they just suggest me… so m having hard time…
@all SAT takers
guys your test is approaching so you better focus on that too… best of luck from my side…

how many of us, here in CC go regularly to USEF? How useful do you find USEF to be? I’d like to listen to you people’s view…

USEF=United States Educational Foundation/Fulbright Commission

@confidential
I do go to USEF regularly not on a day-to-day basis but frequently.At first, when I didn’t knew anything it was of great help but now not that much. It helps us sometimes to meet the college representative.Thats all!!!

@confidential
I am trying that. Lets hope it will work out in my favor.
