Class of 2015 from Nepal

^^Its not about fame or shame. Its about my privacy. I don’t like posting my stats in public thread…thats all…

^

exactly. I think it is very important to respect others’ privacy.

You might argue what bad might it cause, since most don’t disclose their names here, but it’s personal choice whether something like results is to be disclosed or not. Else why would college board not produce a long list containing everyone’s scores online?

That is exactly why I have not been commenting on the “RBS” questions here. No one should post things that are meant to be kept private by the concerned person. That would be extremely disrespectful and might start unwanted fights.

I know that some really want to know about who they are competing against / are trying to avoid clashes, but I think it will jeopardize the entire college application process (I am not going to explain why even if asked). There have been events in the past I do not want to talk about.

Agree with @sarbaraj101 and @confidential2015, its personal choice! As simple as that!

registering again for sat?

^dec prolly

Ok guys I had no idea there was a Nepali thread here!!! Anyways, I came to US 8 months ago, skipped half of my eleventh grade doing nothing then when I got there joined in 11 th grade for 3 months and got an unweighted GPA of 3.75. Now I had no idea whatsoever that I would’ve been going to college here around a year ago but anyways, now I’m a high school senior here, taking 4 AP classes this semester who pretty much neglected SATs because I had no idea it was so important. I took it in June without any preparation and got 1720, then again in October with again not much preparation and a lot of cockiness and got 1840 and now I’m taking them again this December. I haven’t taken any classes or even looked at the SAT handbook so far. Now finally after this revelation that my SAT score is going to haunt me is just too depressing. I’m a permanent citizen as of now but I want a safe school where I’ll most likely will get aid even with this score because honestly I can’t afford to pay for college. I hope you guys can recommend me some colleges !!

Nice to see a Nepali from US over here. Can you post your details?? Your stats, your state of residency, AP classes you took, your breakdown of the SAT…then we can obviously recommend something. You should even take a look at the US related threads. They are really helpful.

My SAT breakdown: 690 M 600 W 560 CR. I can try to improve my CR but I’m not one of those people who can memorize a bunch of vocabulary, memorizing is just not my thing. I moved around 8 months ago so my parents are in a poor financial condition. I do have an aunt who can cosign for a student loan but I want to get as much merit if not need based scholarship as possible. I’d taken honors Chemistry, honors Physics and pre-calculus when I joined the high school here in late march and ended the year with 100 in chemistry and physics and 95 in physics. Unfortunately, I had a B in English and Driver’s Ed ( embarrassing ) and ended up with 3.75 unweighted GPA. Now in my senior year, I changed school and so my graduation requirements changed a lot and I wasn’t able to take AP physics or AP chemistry. But I managed to take AP Calculus. In addition, I’m taking AP Literature, AP Biology and AP US history. Right now I have a B in AP US history ( again anything related to memorizing that I’m not ecstatic about is just not my thing ). Something really ironic is that in my AP lit class almost all students have better CR scores than I do but I still have the best grade in the class!! I’ve already applied to Penn State, they don’t give grants or aids and I’ll have to rely solely on loans if I get accepted and decide to go there. I’m planning to go for chemical engineering and I’m ready to take up $50,000 loan if necessary; hopefully that’ll be enough to get me through a decent state college. I’m taking SAT II this november but since I was in Nepal during my 11th grade for only 3 months and also the fact that here I haven’t taken AP classes in Physics or Chemistry, my chances of getting good scores in subject tests are still low at best. It sucks to be in such a circumstance where you’ve changed 4 schools in about a year ( SLC - 11th grade for 3 months- 1st school in US for 4 months - senior year in another school ).

dude CR is not just about mugging up the vocabs…i agree that to some extent it may help for your sentence completion questions but definitely no so much for the passages…
and yeah i suggest you to head off to a good state uni…

hey guys… mine GPA is too bad… its not even 3 … but i hav got 1400 in CR and Maths… Where should I apply??? to get aid enough… can u suggest me any colleges or universities?

hey dude, i dont think its. gona be easy for u get such amount of loan… with mediocre score in SAT… better luck try next time to improve ur CR. and yeah I agree that CR is just not about only vocabs. Its about passage also and for that u need a bit common sense!!!

^^Probably to state universities that provide full tuition based on either your GPA or your SAT. You might say that LACs and national universities look at a person on a holistic basis, so, why not apply there? But your GPA is too low for the holistic approach thing. There are certain criteria for the holistic approach thing and one of them is your GPA! State universities award good scholarships if you have 1250+ composite…

@iwojima:
revealing SAT scores is one’s personal wish…some like and some dun like to reveal them…its nothing abt shame or pride…i’ve always been posting my stats whether high or low, and requesting to chance me (but guys here dont do that)…u had a little low score,try for dec…u still have chances to score high…this time I scored CR: 630, Maths:800 and Writing:620 …higher than my practice test scores… wont b taking another, else it may decrease…(afraid of my SAT subject tests)…my suggestion: Take as much practice test as u can…that will surely help u. I had finished almost everybook of USEF…i did the same and increased from ~1850 to 2050…U can do that too…

@sammy:
u’re applying to Lehigh as well??? then we’ll have a clash :smiley:
but i know u’ll outstrip my stats by ur straight As,aftr all im out of valley n dun have a pageturner Essay…

@trinitian:
why are u giving up man?? u shud apply to Lehigh??? we cud have clashes, and its not just abt clashes,may be we cud all (including sammy) have the same flight to Lehigh…:)

every1 seems to be busy with ED application…i just finished it today…all the best to all EDers!!!

@durlav1n1
Congrats man for ur great(in my opinion) SAT scores…And again i am sorry i got less than u in SAT as both of us are EDing for lehigh( which will decrease my chances)…
And also I wanted to tell u that u r so wrong about your out of valley perspective…Why do u think u said “as I am out of valley and do not necessarily writing a good essay”. Not being from valley does not affect your essay…BTW i am also from out of valley and given that your info is right i am ur neighbor tooo…

@all Oct 9 sat takers

Any 1 scoring below 800, did u guyz see the SAT Maths scaling this time??
its so Fawking.
1 qusestion mistake = -30
I made 1 mistake and 1 unanswered and i scored 740.
Raw score 52~740.Thats the worst scaling, i cud have ever imagined.

@durlav1n1
I am not giving up.
M jus planing to cancel my ED I and apply ED II, i dun wan to have clashes with sammy(1330), u(1430) and any other guy who has far more better composite scores than me.I wud better prepare for my SAT Dec test by that time. Just Being a little wise…:D

hey every one…
such a long thread … took me an hour to read few pages…

i submitted my ed … and i hope (not confident, jst little glimmer of hope) i get accepted…

durlav1n1 and sammy congrats on ur SATs … good scores…
i scored alittle lower thn those…

and yeah sammy u told from xaviers rite?? me too… so may i know who u are ? ?

@trinitian
dude, don’t lie. I know you are going to ED somewhere.

One question for all. I think I heard about it in this Nepal-2015 post only. Is it true that we can amend the stuffs in common app by some strategy for the subsequent colleges if we had mad slight errors while sending the common app data for the first with some colleges in the list?

the best thing is to contact the colleges directly and tell them about the mistakes…they’ll correct it! :D

@zxonrust I think I know you… I think you are A levels 2009 batch, aren’t you ??? and your name starts with J…
