^Typically, the RD rate for deferred applicants is equivalent to the overall admit rate, at least at other schools. I imagine it’s the same at Chicago.

How many merit scholarships does UChicago give out? I’m mostly interested in the University Scholars one. I looked on their website, and it says they don’t notify you until April about merit scholarships, but there was another link under my decision letter to a scholarship letter. Is it a very prestigious scholarship? (It gaurentees $10,000 every year if I enroll)

I’m deferred with a SAT 1950. But I estimate my Dec SAT to be around 2100. What’s my chance then??

hmm then maybe thats why i got deferred. I only showed my interest in the sciences…

Wow I was just looking at the stats of people that got accepted and they are amazing! =O mostly >2250 SATs and >3.8 GPAs. I wonder if that’s an accurate cross section of the UChicago population… because if it is, then I’m sooo below average that I should feel incredibly lucky that I got in xD

The average SAT at Chicago is 2200. So the CC Chicago-accept pile is slightly higher stats-wise than Chicago’s current class. As such, there are many students at Chicago in the range 2100-2200, but few below 2100.

thank you glassesarechic!

To azndarkvader: I feel your pain.

My kid was hurting a week ago after getting deferred at Penn. ACT 35, top grades, 6 AP courses this year, on State champ soccer team, ran in State finals for track, concert piano. And a legacy.

You’ll get in somewhere good, as he did (Chicago). And yeah, you could have been admitted to Chicago and probably should have been. But it will work out.

I feel like the most common difference between those accepted and those deferred is test scores. I only saw one person who was accepted who had an ACT score of <33 and that was because they were a recruited athlete.

^ Well I would be an exception to that =P I got a 32 on my ACT and much less than 2200 on my SAT. I don’t have outstanding ECCs either… I’m neither president of anything nor a recluted athlete, just an average girl with personal interests and skills. I wrote some pretty good essays, though, and I think that greatly contributed to the admission officers getting a good impression of me =)

Well Congratulation! I can only hope I have the same luck for RD now.

@austrianpog: Anyway you are from Austria?

I also got a 32 on my ACT, and haven’t won any major award nor am I a legacy. I think I got accepted because I wrote some strong essays, I did have a lot of leadership (2 captain positions and vice president of the spanish club) do a lot of volunteer work for the cystic fibrosis foundation, and am a first generation college student.
I’m definetly not a genius, just a normal girl from a small town, which I guess they liked!

Question about the financial aid package they offered for EA results:
The part that says University of Chicago Grant, is that supposed to be the amount covering all four years or just the amount theyd give for freshman year?

Also, how do the actual financial aid packages tend to compare to these preliminary estimates? I feel like the amount in grant that I got was way too good to be true.

@glassesarechic: Where did you read that “the RD rate for deferred applicants is equivalent to the overall admit rate, at least at other schools”? And what exactly do you mean by “other schools”? Like all other equally/similarly selective schools?

Is any international applicant applying for financial aid accepted?

A thousand times congratulations to all of you who were accepted; I genuinely hope to see you at Chicago next fall. Visit the campus/take a tour and information session if you haven’t yet, and attend one of the prospie events in April - those things really sealed the deal for me. Even if you weren’t accepted, please remember that the entire college experience is exactly what you make of it. I was rejected from my first choice last year, and it was crushing, but now I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. I know that me saying this won’t make the deferral/rejection suck less, but know that it’ll get better.

Feel free to shoot me any questions that you might have about UChicago - academics, core, campus life… I’m a current first-year here, so I might be able to help you out. :)

Wishing you all a happy holiday!

I got into Wharton (ED) a few days ago. I sent my withdrawal letter, but Chicago still gave me the decision. I was deferred.
Congratulations to everyone who got in! U Chicago is a truly great place!

Guys, keep faith. UChi seems an unpredictable school. An intl kid I know was accepted to everyone’s shock. He ranks 21/24 and is not particularly excellent academic-wise

I haven’t received my admission decisions yet.
I checked on UChicago student account about 20 times a day since Friday but I don’t see anything related to admission decision.
What should I do?
