Class of 2016: EA/Regular decision discussion

^I didn’t get a call from anyone. What is GAAP?

it’s the “georgetown admissions ambassador program.” a current student from sfs called me to congratulate me on my acceptance, talk about the gaap weekend, answer questions, etc.

^Oh, nice. Maybe it’s just a SFS thing? Or maybe I’ll be getting a call soon? lol

The wait’s finally over! Deferred!

i don’t think so… but i think you should get a call soon: its a 202 area code number.

@cuddlemcozy, did you get the call today? what time? and what state do you live in?

got the call yesterday (12/13/11) at around 6ish. I live in MN, also got my acceptance letter yesterday!

did everyone else get their call yesterday too?

have any other international students received emails?

@cuddlemecozy: yep, they called me around 7 last night! i felt bad about not having many questions even though i knew they were going to call, but they were super nice and i did get some good information about the political climate - it was just a really nice gesture :)

They just called me. They kind of catch you off guard if you weren’t expecting it. (Although I was because of this thread lol) They congratulate you and then ask you if you have any questions. I kind of made up questions to ask. I asked her what she was studying, if she turned down other schools, if she knew someone there whom I knew, how the classes were, how the classes compared with high school, how the language classes were etc. She then referred me to the “official” Georgetown Facebook. It was a nice gesture. I admit that calls like these have the potential to be awkard.

However, I’m not joining the FB group yet until I commit to go.

I joined, even though I’m not certain I will attend in the fall. are you guys planning to go to the GAAP weekend thing in march?

So did I- since it wasn’t labeled class of 2016 or anything I felt comfortable joining. And yeah, I’m planning on going to the weekend- it seems like the best way of making sure it’s the right fit. I’m looking forward to getting more information about it in January!

GAAP call just came in here in California. (Caller ID helps to avert the surprise, as it’s a 202 Area code number and “Georgetown Admissions” comes up.) Got the call with cat on lap; cat not impressed. And it’s not just for SFS - was admitted to the College. It’s a nice touch (the call, not the cat). It makes it seem a little more real.

I asked about the facebook group and they said there is no commitment and they expect almost half of those who join will not actually attend

yeah. and it caught me off guard too lol, I came up with a bunch of random questions though :)

It’s not that I think joining is a committment, I just don’t want people who see that I’ve joined to think I’ve committed to go. I’m not officially part of the class of 2016, and I don’t see much benefit at this point in the game in hooking up with random people who, like me, have made no formal committment to the university.

Very thankful to Georgetown for letting me in early.

Congrats to all of you who got the good news on your EA apps and have the opportunity to be in the class of 2016.
As a parent of a freshmen in the College, all I can say is that the GAAP experience on the admitted student weekend last spring sealed the deal. Our son was all set to commit to a different school where he was also accepted but the Georgetown weekend completely changed his mind. If you are seriously interested in Georgetown (you must be if you applied EA) you owe it to yourself to attend the admitted student program. Our son is very happy, involved and glad he made the decision to attend Georgetown.

Best of luck to all of you.

@AvonHSDad: What other schools were your son looking at?
