Junior - Question about taking old SAT and new SAT

Hi, I am a junior in high school and have taken the November SAT and got a 1450. I want to take it again in January because I feel that I could get a 1550. Then of course, I will have to take the new one once or even twice so that will be four tries.

Should I not take the January SAT I and just take the new SAT or take the January one?

Maybe colleges won't care if you take the old SAT and only count the times you take the new SAT?

Thanks

The only way you could possibly get away with only taking the old one is if you have also taken the writing SAT II which ends in January. If you haven't already taken it, don't bother taking the old one again or the writing SAT II for that matter. Just worry about the new one.

I am going to take the new old for sure, I want to send the old one and the new one.

I think it's OK for a junior to take the old SAT again...next year your new SAT scores will likely eclipse the results on the old exam, but you might get the benefit of the doubt from the old test if something goes wrong next year.

why did you take ur SATs so early? anyhoo dont bother with january, take ur time and take the new SAT. like reasonabledad said, it depends on ur sat ii writing. (although some schools simply wont take the old SAT when you are applying).

well i'm a junior and i took the dec. SAT. i'm planning on putting the old one and the new one on my application.

Relating to this, I have a question about composite scores. Since I'm guessing they are going to be centered the same way, will they take the composite score combining both the new and old SATs?
For example, a junior X got 800/800 on the old SAT. He takes the new one and gets 700/700/800. Is his score just 2200 or would they replace the math and verbal with the old score for a perfect 2400?

Effulgent, quite a few colleges are stating that they will combine the new/old scores as you described. It may vary according to the school, of course.

i'm a junior too. i'm VERY happy with my old sat scores, but i might take the new ones if i decide to apply to any UC-schools. but what you do really depends on the schools you are looking at. Stanford, for one, says this: (taken from their website)

The New SAT I

In the first year that the new SAT I is phased in, beginning with the March 2005 test date, we want to provide our applicants with flexibility. For students applying to Stanford for Fall 2006, we will accept a student's highest individual verbal score and math score from either the old SAT I, the new SAT I, or a combination of the two exams.

Stanford has always taken an applicant's highest verbal and math scores, whether received in one exam sitting or in separate sittings. Our policy regarding the new SAT I exam is grounded in this same spirit while recognizing the flexibility required in this first year of transition.

so yeeeah...do some research

newcool -- if you are gonna take the New SAT, don't waste your time and money on taking the old one again.

skip the old, take the new ones.
