Class of 2017 (From Nepal) - Official Discussion Thread. . .

Ramapo College of New Jersey is a good option for safety

@Bibesh I agree with diplomatic answer from Nepalimussa. Do you have any hooks in your application?

And a college that can provide full ride?

I was also relying on Ramapo. I was only looking at the deadline on the common app and not on Ramapo’s website, which is why I MISSED the deadline for scholarship which was on January 12. Ramapo doesn’t have need based aid so no use applying now. Who knew you needed to apply so early for the safeties!

I too like diplomatic people.I know my recommendation letters suck as I have written them myself. I have a unique personal essay but don’t know how the admission staff will take it. I have volunteering activities in and outside the classroom.

@bibesh: i read this from somewhere else but I feel i need to restate it.

if a college provides full ride, it quickly stops being a safety because everyone is going to apply there. I am talking about the internationals here. so there is no safety that provides full ride. Every full ride has to be earned. now don’t give a smug smile batuli.

but you can always apply to colleges like colby-sawyer and caldwell which give almost full tuition is you meet a certain requirement. But this ain’t no full ride. You need to pay 12k or higher per year. Just know that full ride needs to be earned.

Well said…

Those things get overlooked and unfortunately are not hooks!
Had it been before December 1, I would have personally given you the overwhelming list of safeties colleges. For now, almost none. See this one. This might work:

Scholarships[/url”>http://www.stjohns.edu/admission/international/scholarships]Scholarships

What are the hooks that are needed in application mate?

Could anybody tell me about St. Lawrence University?
I know the aid is good, and the college is selective as well. But I would like to know more about the academics and stuff.

@Bibesh Hooks are something that makes you stand out in the crowd. Could be your essay, your FANTASTIC ECA’s(other than volunteering and some intra college competitions), EXCELLENT RECOMMENDATIONS, Perfect Score, some world distinctions, etc. You tell your essay is unique but you are not confident about it , which refrains you from saying that it is a definite hook.

It is too late for asking safeties that provide you full ride, or even full tuition here. Even safeties have started to reject students now. One of my friend who had sound academics was rejected from COLBY SAWYER lately.

Hope for top tiers now. They will definitely meet our need, if we get accepeted.

@nepalimussa I agree with you dude. My full ride was not an “easy meat” ,no matter what.

By the way, has anyone heard of Nepali student attending St. Lawrence in recent years?

My essay is unique and I think the admission committee will definitely like it…

Lets hope for a top tier college then…

“Congratulations. You have been offered an admission to Middlebury College.”

9 more days before I get this email from Middlebury.

hey ppl, JUB decisions are coming out soon. anybody waiting for those ?

^not me. good luck to those who are.

I applied to a college for regular decision. Can anyone tell me how I can change my application status to the college to ED2 from Regular decision.

@bibesh: it depends on the college you are applying to. But since most of the ED II decisions are about to come, I think it is very difficult now to change your decision plans.

@nepalimussa: hmmm… that’s the spirit dude! good luck… (y)

@bibesh: btw how can you say that your essay is unique?

@hangover: thank you. we convince ourselves that we are not going to get into our dream colleges because we fear that our hopes will crash harder if we let them sore higher. but that only makes the passing days so painful. I don’t want to feel that pain; i don’t need that anxiety. i am
just going to stay hopeful and be happy. and I am going to get into Midd.

@bibesh: i think only Lafayette has the provision to change your status from regular to early decision. but as hangover said isn’t it already too late to do so?
