Class of 2017 (From Nepal) - Official Discussion Thread. . .

Guys. Was any student from Nepal admitted to Kenyon college last year?

YES. Someone with CC username Sickrate. Do not know about the aid though.

more than 1400 International students have applied to Skidmore this year…

1300 to Trinity last year and I hear even more this year.

Guys. I have a question in mind. Let’s say, you say to a colz that you can pay up to 5k. The college provides limited need based aid. Will the college accept you saying you have to pay 10k. Or will the college reject you if they can’t meet your need.

It depends upon the college. Top tier college which guarantees to meet your need will not accept you to make you pay more than what you have stated to pay.

Colleges won’t merely accept the amount of contribution you state/say/ decide to pay… it is all dependent on how college sees or calculates your need and expected contribution… and believe me, it depends on colleges too…

At one college, you might have to pay 7 thousand USD while another may ask you to pay Five per annum… it is coz some colleges take only income into account whereas other colleges decide that your family assets would be counted too…

Best thing is, try to give an honest estimate and wait for their aid decision…

To add to that, It also depends on total amount of money the college has allocated for this year student. Some year it is little high and some year it is little low. (Depends on funding and other resources, I guess). They provide aid according to their budget.

Has anyone applied to Dickinson College under ED ?

^not me…just counting my days till I hear from Middlebury.

I was wondering if anyone with an I-20 from a top college has ever been rejected a visa. Also, guys do you know anyone who has been rejected a visa with Caldwell or Colby-Sawyer I-20?

I am beginning to think I am stuck with some safety college and what is eating me inside is whether I will get a visa. Guys what do you think? Will someone with a full-tuition scholarship from Caldwell be rejected a visa? I still need to pay 16k for living expenses! Damn, New Jersey is expensive.

@nepalimussa: Middlebury is in Vermont dude. not New Jersey. :stuck_out_tongue: (If you know what I mean). ;)

Guys, any new news? I guess the ED II decisions are on the way. Vassar, Grinnell and Macalester have released their ED II decisions. any acceptances? or rejections?

yeah… Vassar did that on Thursday last week. The fact that there is not even a single acceptance post makes me suspect no Nepalese on CC got in to these colleges … ED II

@hangover: surprisingly my Middlebury fever is wearing off. maybe this means i will be less hurt if I get a rejection, and that is a good thing.

I got my acceptance letter from Caldwell today, and I know that is where I am going to end up. They are making me pay 16k for living expenses. I just hope that I get a visa.

And if you know any safeties that will make me pay less, feel free to drop their names.

nepalimussa, if you can demonstrate the capability to pay 16K … you will get a visa…

^ my parents will pay for the first year. Second year onward, they will be able to contribute only 5k. I talked to some Nepalese in Caldwell, and they said they earn their living expenses themselves. I have no idea what I am going to do. maybe earn my own expenses and get a D in academics.

god, I have yet to hear from 15 other colleges. why am I making these useless plans? Is it because I have got nothing better to do? What are you guys doing these days, huh? Any useful courses? Any recommended training? I am thinking of taking some guitar lessons.

brother/sister, if you wanna do some courses, I’d recommend doing foreign language courses such as Spanish, Russian or Chinese…

Right now, I am intensely volunteering for a child-rights organization (my essay for some college was about it)…

@nepalimussa: I would strongly suggest you not to apply for VISA if you are supposed to pay more than 10K. The VISA giver( or interviewer , whatever they call them) will not provide you with any because they know 10K is very much for a nepali family. Every year hundreds of applicants get rejected ( you know that) just because of payment issues. I know you can pay 10K but they wont give you unless your sponsor is a super businessman/ minister even if you can show that you have more than enough even after paying ( which most consultancies do by making fake documents).

Below 10K should be somewhat in safe range.
All I can say is it will be extremely difficult to get a visa above 10K ( nearly a NO)
If you want to take an interview, you can go ahead. ( You must be aware that it costs something like $300+)

Best of luck!!

I hope the statements ^^ are not completely true.
