<p>hi guys!! hi @ameetbh123 count me in…in your boat! capsize tah hudaina ni? </p>
<p>same here guys
:(</p>
@batuli My SAT scores weren’t so great. I got the presidential scholarship at Caldwell. And I still have to pay around 15K(room, board and all what-so-ever included). Is it a good deal?
Hey guys, I know it’s weird to post a comment about this in the class of 2018 but I couldn’t find any other reliable threads to share my questions. So introducing me briefly, I studied my +2 from SXC maitighar and scored on average 83%. I took my Sat in Nov 5 and it went well (expecting around 1420 although the essay part was not that great). I am hoping to study aeronautical engineering but it’s hard for searching colleges that provide good scholarships ( free ride to be specific) with excellent education system. So I would be really grateful of you guys if you could help me. Thank you.
You say you want to study Aeronautical engineering. That is a field only a few colleges have. Most colleges might have Mech E. degrees with a concentration in Aeronautics and most don’t even have that. And it’s usually large state colleges that have programs like Aeronautical engineering or petroleum engineering. These colleges don’t give aid to internationals.
Then what shall I do bro?
Apply to one of the smaller LACs with strong engineering programs, and do Mech Engineering and work with professors on aero projects, or do senior design in aero fields. In addition, you can also go for masters in aero field. Another option would be to go to a private research universities that do give aid to internationals (like Lehigh) and do the Mech E/Aero programs.
For the record, I think it’d be better to do Mechanical as it’s more versatile than Aero (although they’re both very similar anyways).
@Freshuate, what sixstringrocker said here pretty much sums up your options. I do want to reiterate his last suggestion on getting a Mechanical degree, than Aerospace, since it’s more versatile. There are very few US aerospace companies that hire international students, so getting a MechE degree would be better for when you graduate unless you’re planning to use your Aero degree outside US or back in Nepal.
Protip, aerospace industry uses mechanical, electrical and computer technology, all extensively, which means you can enter aerospace with pretty much any of these degrees. It’s just a matter of what kind of work/responsibilities you want within aerospace. If it’s mechanical design and analysis, then MechE degree would be fine. If it’s more geared towards Avionics and Flight controls then EE degree can be just as fine. If you want to go to grad school and do more of a Aero CFD work then CompSci or Mathematics would be just as fine too. MechE ofcouse would be the most versatile in terms of preparing you with right classes as well as giving you plenty of career options to take upon graduation.
You mention “I am hoping to study aeronautical engineering but it’s hard for searching colleges that provide good scholarships ( free ride to be specific) with excellent education system.” Heard of MIT?
Thanks for your reply, brother. I have applied to 15 colleges in common app (including upenn) that have stellar mechanical engineering courses. Now, let’s hope for the best and I am patiently waiting till April 1.
And I did want to apply to MIT but I haven’t taken any sat subject tests + my sat is only 1430( other applicants have average of 1500)+ my TOEFL is just 98 with a 20 on speaking. All these factors demotivated me to apply to MIT but I applied to upenn to give it a chance.
