Since we just switched schools (Yay UNCSA) all I know right now is the move in date is August 19 and that it is an 8 hour drive! We have to re do our housing paperwork and medical forms, etc. But thats ok! The new dorm is going to be physically a lot smaller too because U Arts dorms are large. So we need to scale down our packing…

You know I’m just 45 minutes away from UNCSA if your D ever needs me!

D is going 2500 miles away so packing for my clothes-horse is proving to be challenging. And she’s never lived where it really snows…

Mine found out her roommate while we were on a mini-vacay in NYC - we came home to frantic prepping for her grad party - and she left the next morning for TPAP (where she remains until the end of this week). I don’t even know if she’s discussed “who’s bringing what” with the roomie! Heck - she hasn’t even opened all of her graduation gifts - because of how tight it was between her party and leaving for North Carolina! That’s OK - we have ONE MONTH to prep when she gets home from TPAP (with another 2 mini-vacay’s slipped in!)

@annelisesmom, my daughter is also a clothes-horse and has never lived in the snow. She will be 2300 miles away. We leave 1 month from today!

She has her roommate assignment. Her roommate is a Sophomore and already has a refrigerator and microwave, so we don’t have to worry about that. We just spent hours at Bed Bath and Beyond with the “magic” wand, lol.

I don’t know if money is no object for some (for me it’s an issue) and we did the wand thing with Bed Bath and Beyond and have some things waiting for us in NJ. But Drew sent us some info for a company that does packages for linens etc and it is markedly less expensive than BB and B. Just the Memory Foam bed topper alone makes this company very affordable. The kids in the FB group at Drew who have used this company said that the products are very good and are guaranteed to last all four years.

Thanks bisouu! My daughter’s school also sent us info on that company but we weren’t sure of the quality. Good to know that the products are good. We will take a look!

I did not do the RHL products but many in both my kids’ dorms did and they were very happy with the items and the convenience factor.

Anyone getting dorm insurance?

OH, I’ll have to check RHL for the topper. We shopped at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Target, etc. and I came out better than RHL, but I’m a bargain shopper from WAY back. LOL! The toppers are tremendously expensive at BBB.

ONU for my D is August 22nd(Freshmen move in on 21st but D is a transfer student). We have a 19 hour drive from Houston, Tx. D is excited to get started and spread her wings. Of course she will miss her Mexican food. Good luck to all and safe travels

GSOMTMom- I hear you on the bargain shopping. It is my favorite sport, not to mention its therapeutic value It is killing me that I can’t do some shopping now. I also have son’s “hope chest”, which is what I call the tupperware storage container that is full of the bedding he needed for past camp experiences. I’m bound and determined to pack the sheets and his light blanket. I thought I’d order his comforter later in the year and have it shipped directly to him. He won’t care if he has a mattress topper, but I do want to get an anti-bed bug mattress cover.

Target has the anti bed bud covers much more reasonable than BBB. Also those space saver bags work nicely for bedding and pillows. If you use a target red card usually the shipping is free

^^YES to what broadway95 said. I got the anti bed bug/allergen cover from Tarjay. It was on sale last week! I got a couple of things from Triple B with coupons and just raided my mother’s coupon stash to get a few more things from there.

Off to Target tomorrow
broadway95 - are you talking about the bags to vacuum the air out of? I’ve been thinking about
trying those. Should I get them online? Store choice is limited here, but thank goodness for Tarjay, GSOMTMom!

Since we are flying, we need to get most of the supplies at our destination. That is where BBB comes in handy; otherwise, I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be able to find the things we need when we arrive.

@entertainersmom, Tarjay sells SpaceBags. They work so well. I used them when I moved to NC and The D is using them for her move.

FYI for my fellow bargain shoppers, Walmart looks to be the place for many dorm items at reasonable prices. They do “site to store”. I was thinking of ordering the fridge online and having it sent to the store down the street from the school.

^^tarjay does the same thing too where you can pick it up at the store near school. @entertainersmom They have space bags at tarjay, Walmart along with a lot of local hardware stores like ace hardware. ziploc makes their own version of it to so wherever they sell ziploc has them too, online works too.

Don’t forget you can ship stuff UPS. Find out from the dorms when the earliest date they will accept packages. We shipped lighter bulky things (comforter, down coat and other clothes). Since we were shipping to the Residence Hall office we got the business shipping rate which was surprisingly inexpensive.

Also remember, on Southwest, 2 free bags per person (that’s SIX bags plus carry-on if both parents travel to drop off !) And if you still need room pay extra for the 3rd. That’s how we got D home by herself on the plane this summer!

@austinmt That’s what we will be doing. My mom and sister live in Columbus which is about an hour and half from ONU. My D will have family close by. We will ship some stuff to my mom’s house a week early and take the rest of her stuff up when we leave. Thanks for the shout out for UPS. I am a UPS driver so I appreciate it.
