toowonderful…I think NYU has it down to a science. It is quite the scene. After freshman year, it won’t be as crazy because students don’t all move in on the same day. You did good. Which dorm is it? I still remember the scene nine years later (Third North).

@soozievt - she is in Palladium- it’s super nice, and she even has a (small) view of union square park from her window :)

Oh, living right on Union Square is very cool. My daughter lived in Palladium one summer and then in another dorm on Union Square soph year. Once they get out of college and are supporting themselves, such a location is not affordable!

I have told her not to get used to the locale!!

^^LOL! Same!

Ah, but what a great way to start life in the big city! :)

I did not want to get back in the car and go- I’ve never gotten to live anywhere that “cool” in my entire life!

During college visits with non-MT son, I visited my alma mater, Michigan Sate. The dorm I had lived in ?? years ago had recently been totally transformed into a residential Arts dorm, complete with high-tech theater, art and music studios, potter’s wheels, gallery space and one of those terrific international cuisine “cafeterias” (not like the one I worked in as a student). The communal bathrooms had been transformed into something you’d find in a high end health club - though dorm rooms are EXACTLY the same. S’s freshman living quarters at WSU are not nearly that nice, but the campus amenities make me wonder why anyone would ever want to graduate. Oh, there’s that cost issue. . .

Hi All! Hope everyone had a good summer preparing for this final leg of the journey. We took the S last Friday to Pittsburgh (Point Park University). Most Freshman moved in on Thursday, so Friday was really quiet and sane. All logistics went off without a hitch. He is living in an extremely LARGE triple that has two bathrooms in the room! There were some tears on departure, and Saturday morning was REALLY weird when I came downstairs and “the boy” was not asleep on the couch (his bed basically for the entire summer!!). He’s had all his placement classes and is happy (haha) to attend 8:00 am ballet every day! He seems to be aclimating very nicely. I hear from him at least once a day via text (mostly asking me a question, and then I get to ask my questions). Otherwise, I’ve tried not to contact him unless it’s important stuff about school. He is coming home in a month for Homecoming as his girl is a Senior this year. Given he was out and about most of the summer, the house is not much different, except his room is FINALLY clean!!!

Now, my second son has picked up the Acting/MT bug; he is a junior. But this time…I KNOW WHAT I’M DOING!!! Thanks mostly to this site. So, Acting lessons, Acting Coach, Vocal Coach, auditions for school and local theatre productions, etc., etc, etc…here we go again…But I’m very happy and excited for him!

@MTMommaJAA This summer my daughter was in the Summer Stock Austin production of Chicago, directed by Michael McKelvey of Point Park University (Associate professor and private voice coordinator). She had a wonderful experience working with him and the 3 or 4 students he brought with him for the summer. They are a great group of people! Your son is in good hands!

In the post drop off stress phase (for me, not her, she is having a ball) I have scrubbed the majority of my house within an inch of it’s life…

I’ve been walking my dogs for the first time in forever, I’m convinced the old one thinks I’m trying to kill her…we’ve always had a love hate relationship LOL (she’s 11)

Moldy unused refrigerator in garage cleaned and ready to be given away - check. Winter coats, hats, scarves, mittens cleaned - check. Computer desk cleaned, new printer out of box and connected - check. Three 4-inch binders and miscellaneous folders of MT college search/application materials dismantled - not yet. . .

This thread makes me tear up just thinking about the upcoming year and where might daughter might end up next year. Already started the list of “lasts” – last first day of school, auditioning for her last high school musical. Sigh, I am going to be a mess. It helps to know I am not alone and not crazy! Break a leg to all of your wonderful kids as they start their new adventures.

Went into son’s room for the first time yesterday and cleared away a year or two worth of debris

I am thinking about tackling “under the bed” in D"s room…but then I get scared I’ll fall into the black hole I just KNOW is in there…

I haven’t started on my daughter’s room yet. She left it a mess, but wants to FaceTime with me this weekend so she can show me where some items are that she wants me to send to her. If i clean it up before she calls, she won’t be able to find anything, lol.

What am I going to do after my entire house is cleaned? Today I tackle the basement, which really isn’t that bad. Maybe I should get a part time cleaning lady job?

@Divamamacita is an adjustment for sue! The last year was so incredibly busy! I was really ready for the lasts to be over! I find myself sitting around saying “now what”. I’ve already started a spreadsheet on summer stock opportunities! S is my only child and I’m single, which reminds me I must apologize to him. It appears I am the one that somehow splatters toothpaste on the mirror…hmmm… :))

@toowonderful - Our daughters are neighbors! Mine is living in University Hall right down the block!

@hermomma- how fun!! How is your D enjoying welcome week? Mine is having a blast, but is ready for classes to start and really get going
