Class of 2018 move in day

@toowonderful‌ - She is adjusting. She is very ready for classes to start. Welcome Week has been fun but long with a lot of down time and I think she is longing to get back to the busy schedule she is used to.

MTMC - I need you to tutor me on the summer stock info! :)

Me too MTMC! I’m jealous how far ahead of the game you are

Don’t be jealous I’m just single, on a diet and really bored LOL PM me your email I’ll send you my spreadsheet. Its not nearly as epic as my list of supplies for the dorm spreadsheet but its a good start.

My husband said today that maybe I needed a hobby…(it’s been a LONG weekend) perhaps a summer stock spreadsheet might be just the thing :)

If your D ends up loving Palladium, have her try for one of the Explorations floors in Palladium as a sophomore and junior. D and her suitemates are there for the second year as a junior. She is doing Spotlight NYC–I think it’s for kids who like the culture of NYC–so pretty broad. She was in 3rd North as a freshman and didn’t want to leave the neighborhood.

@uskoolfish- D is in loving it there, and if for sure plotting how to stay in the area next year- great tip, thanks!

Last Saturday (day after drop off) I started the daunting task of cleaning “the boy’s” room! Yes it was that bad. As a surprise for his first visit home I framed and hung ALL his show pictures (10x13 cast pics with insets) from the last 4 1/2 years as well as his two summer productions June and August, Ghost The Musical (cast as Sam Wheat) and Les Miz (cast as Fueilly). His room is actually amazing now. I walked in there yesterday to put away the last of the straggling pieces of clothing left over in the wash and was awe struck by what he has accomplished in such a short time frame; to see it all “documented” covering his walls. I now sit here in tears a little over a week later, because although he wasn’t home much, especially the last 3 months…he still came home…I miss him now. But, I am very proud and I know he will be successful! Thank you all for listening.

@MTMajorCook‌ - Son was cast as swing dancer in WSU fall musical, which interferes with prescreen opportunity for for SETC in spring. Gonna have to re-evaluate the summer stock audition scheduling. Jeez, tell me it stops some time. I am NOT a helicopter. I am NOT a helicopter. I am NOT. . .

@mom4bwayboy‌ am I reading correctly they have to have one professional gig for SETC? S has what I would loosely call one, he was in Cabaret at a local community theatre he was paid for it, does that count? I’m not sure I consider us helicopters, there is so much to manage with all this. And trust me we are a weeks ahead of you schedule wise, with him being cast he will have no time for all this. Mine is struggling to find time to eat and do his work let alone figure out the applications/pre screen schedule for summer stuff. So that’s how I’m justifying that please join me LOL

@MTMommaJAA‌ that sounds wonderful! I’m considering setting up a scrap book space in my basement, now that its so clean I could entertain down there lol. Its a partially finished space certainly perfect to set up a table/supplies and leave it all out. We’ll see, I like you idea too and I already have that half started.

I believe last year two different large summer stock auditions overlapped as well. These kids have such a busy schedule and add in rehearsals it’s surprising they get anything done. Fitting in laundry and a time to eat was a big challenge last year for my D. Even with a year under her belt fitting in laundry is still a challenge lol

Have been texting all afternoon with my D answering laundry questions!! The funny thing is, she has done her own before, but the different machine settings are throwing her for a loop!

My D has been at ONU for a week and 3 days and loves it. She loves all the students in her MT class and says the professors are awesome. Auditions start tomorrow for a Dance show and a Holiday Spectacular show. Also the Sorority Rush process has started too. She is definitely keeping busy.

SETC requires college students (regardless of whether or not they have worked professionally) to pass a screening audition at one of the screening locations in order to attend the March SETC auditions. Generally 30% - 40% of those who pre-screen are passed on to attend SETC each year… the % varies each year depending on how many applicants apply for the screenings. <a href=“SETC Professional Screening Auditions | SETC”>http://www.setc.org/setc-screenings</a></p>

Whoops. Wrong thread. Ignore me please. ;)

KatMT - thank you for the link!

@KATMT25‌ Thank you!

@MTMajorCook‌ - I was checking into this earlier today, the link for SETC “professional” actor/dancer requirements seems to be broken - at least on my computer. But I thought I had read earlier this summer, that if you had been paid for one gig, that qualified you as “professional” w/o prescreen. Can’t remember the rest of the requirements, but that one seemed to be the gatekeeper.

But if I remember correctly, the paid gig had to be at with an “approved” theater/company to skip prescreen

I am the state screening coordinator for SETC in the state of VA, and the rules for college students who want to attend the spring SETC Professional Auditions are the same in all states…

If you are in college you must pre-screen in the state where you go to college or where your home is located (if you are not from, nor do you go to college in a screening state there is a designated screening state for your state, and you are assigned a state in which to screen… for example, VA is the screening state for NY, NJ, and all the New England states… If you click on the link I posted above you will see a map and you can click on your state to see your screening state). The screening auditions for college students occur in the fall for the spring SETC Professional auditions. It does not matter if you are a college student with professional credits (most college students have professional credits, at least by the time they are juniors and seniors)… if you are currently in college you must pre-screen in the fall in your designated state.

The ONE exception is if you are a VERY VERY… VERY strong dancer, and you choose to apply to the spring SETC auditions as a dancer. In this case you may submit a video pre-screen directly to SETC. I have had a few students do this and get Dancer Only slots at SETC which led to jobs. However, they felt like they would have been better off to go through the state screening process, since DANCER ONLY at SETC do not sing unless they are called back by a specific theatre, so they felt like they limited their options by going DANCER ONLY. Singing Actors all dance, and the advanced dance call for Singing Actors is challenging, and shows off the Singer/ Actor/ Dancers. SETC also has a mover call for the Singing Actors who move.

For the fall SETC auditions (which are occurring in Atlanta next weekend) go to http://www.setc.org/fall-professional/faq#question3</a> to see who is qualified to attend. Most of the companies at the fall SETC are hiring for fall (now) through May… so not a great investment for current college students.

I have attended SETC, NETC, Strawhat, and NH Professional Theatre Auditions to hire performing artists for professional summer work at companies where I have worked. I have students who have attended all of those auditions plus UPTA (for graduating seniors and working professionals only), and the Outdoor Drama Auditions. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions. I will do my best to try to answer. :)
