My daughter received her decision today- rejected. Her stats: 91 GPA (school doesn’t weight or rank), very rigorous curriculum at a STEM-focused NJ public magnet school, 4 APs/rest honors classes, great essay and recs, 1980 SAT, good ECs/leadership. Her cousin goes to Mac so this was disappointing, though not surprising. (We did also apply for FA, not sure if that’s relevant.) Good luck to everyone who applied! BTW, the letter was postmarked 3/17.

I think I am wait listed. On the site I got an option to accept being on the “Alternate list”. I have not received anything in the mail or email though… Ah well I will wait and see what happens with my other offers… Fortunately, however, remote I still stand a chance at my DREAM school. Thanks Admissions committee for not rejecting me outright and keeping my hopes high…

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate was this year?

It’s not clear how many acceptances they sent out (I think their yield last year was around 36%), but they said they received over 6,400 applications for 515 spots this year. (Yeah, I peeked at S’s letter–couldn’t stand waiting!)

My D received a letter today saying that she was put on the Alternate List. The letter states that in the past, the percentage of students admitted from the Alternate List has ranged from 0% to 90%. It goes on to say that they expect to be able to notify students between May 15 and the end of June. National decision deadline is May 1, so not sure how this plays out. Anyone else receive this letter?

The kid was admitted! So happy! :-)

I got the acceptance letter in the mail today. I will post my profile below-
4.39 Weighted GPA
7 APs including 3 this year (5s on all exams to date)
2250 SATs
SAT IIs- Math 2 800, US History 770, Spanish 690 (I’m not Hispanic)
Strong ECs, focused but not extremely broad (Multiple political campaigns and similar projects plus two sports)
Large Public High School in Suburban NJ.

trying to figure out if my son was accepted. Web site has a form to accept or reject the offer of admission, but wondering if everyone sees that…

My d has the same thing on her website…there is a form to accept or reject the offer of admission. She hasn’t rec’d a letter or e-mail yet. We are on the west coast.

zzorp: Sorry, my daughter got the email, I only saw the FedEx packet. That had an acceptance letter and a separate letter with the news about a scholarship.

Just checked with my daughter. The email did NOT include her scholarship letter. That was separate and only in the snail mail packet.

I thought it was interesting, that Mac is the only college so far where the packet beat the email. It was much more exciting getting the news through the mail.

@mommio - We are in the same boat with our D. She was also on the “Alternate List”. We have not received the snail mail yet, but the online acceptance of being placed on the Alternate list form has a FAQ that says the same thing. May 15th will be too late to decide, she has a few LACs she is still waiting for (accepted to 2 LACS so far with Merit aid). Mac was one of her top choice schools (she had 4 on her list - one in WA, 1 in CA and 2 in MN). We have accepted the offer from Mac to preserve a place on the Alternate List, but we will know by the middle of next week from all of her “dream” schools and based on what we find we will opt out of this list since we cannot stay on limbo and that too starting May 15th and indefinitely until school starts.

Alas, will see if the S can make it in to Mac in 6 years when he tries

Congratulations all, enjoy your next 4 years and wish you all the best for the learnings from this fabulous institution.

Please indulge what might be the dopiest question ever! I’m home early and picked up the mail. My son won’t be home for several hours. We have received from Macalester what I would call a chunky envelope, but not full size–it’s like the size of an 8-1 /2 by 11 sheet folded in two. It literally says “MACALESTER YES” on the outside. Is this an acceptance??? I would guess so, but I won’t open his mail and am dying to know!
He was wait-listed at a reach school yesterday; Mac is more of a high match, and one we’d be super happy about.
Thanks!

YES means “Yes!” Congratulations!!!

“YES” means just that. Congratulations!

I am over the moon happy – acceptance letter for the kid yesterday, scholarship letter today! :-)

Thank you two–“YES” is great news!!! I think I was just numb from waiting so long, you know? Couldn’t take it in. Thanks for the kind responses, and congratulations all around!!!

You’re a better woman than I, rejnel. My son was at school last night until very late, so I finally slit the thing open at the top and peeked! I’ve been opening mail for VIPs most of my adult life, so why should this be any different? ;-)

Does anyone know when merit aid notifications come or if they were included in the envelopes of those who received it?

@starcarnivals The kid received acceptance packet yesterday and merit aid letter today.
