My D was thrilled to get an acceptance letter yesterday. Can't give you the wording verbatim, but it mentioned something about admissions office deciding to jump the gun on their published RD date (late March) for particularly strong applicants, etc. Said they'd received over 4,600 applicants for 480 spots in next year's freshman class. She took it to school with her to show the GC, or I'd have more to share!
Good luck to all of you; Mac seems like a great school. We're in suburban Chicago, if that's useful to any mailbox watchers.

When you get the letter back, can you post the complete RD admission number again? It seems to me that the number posted is very similar to last year number.

BTW, congratulation to your D’s acceptance! Macalester is a great school. She will have a wonderful time there.

I think they did that last year!
Congratulations to your daughter, I’m so jealous!

Sadly, I think they only send out early letters to American applicants… But…maybe they will send them out early to internationals too? I can hope!

On a couple CC threads I’ve seen that applications are down, overall, for Macalester this year, by 9.7%. Probably a good year to apply, in that case!

I’d think international applicants should get their good news early, as well! Best of luck to you, saaammie!

Let’s hope they’re down.

I really hope so! Thanks!
When was your daughter’s acceptance letter post-marked? (if you remember, of course) I’m kinda curious about when they started mailing them out

Pretty sure it was postmarked 2/23 – and that was the date on the letter as well.

Our son got an early RD acceptance letter yesterday, too – woo-hoo! He is very happy, although we have to wait for a financial aid package to really know if Mac is feasible for him. He also has 11 other colleges he doesn’t know about yet – but it’s great to know about Mac at this point, since it’s a great school and is high on his list. By the way, we are in California. And congrats to your daughter OutInLeftField!

Oh, congratulations to your son! :D

congrats to everyone who got in! i just got my acceptance letter today too and it was such a great surprise to find out a month early!!

t1388, the numbers are 4,600 applicants for 480 positions

Congrats everyone! I got my acceptance letter today too! Such a surprise, as I thought the decision wouldn’t come until late March.

I saw the “YES MACALESTER” on the envelope, and I was thinking “Damn, if only that was an acceptance letter. Why would they put that on the envelope for whatever this is?” Turns out it was.

I read this thread before I got home to check my mail, but I didn’t think I would be getting a letter since a.) they only got my last rec two weeks ago, b.) I didn’t think I showed enough interest, and c.) I didn’t think I would be one of their strongest applicants.

Needless to say, my heart fluttered when I saw that Orange peel on the envelope sitting on my kitchen counter… and seeing the explicit “yes” meant I was trembling by the time I opened the letter.

As you can tell, I’m really excited, even Macalester hasn’t been one of my top choices. If nothing else, this means my application to my top schools is stronger than I thought. That’s really exciting.

Congrats to everyone who found out early. To those that didn’t, don’t lose hope, and good luck!

I just got my letter as well! It was extremely exciting, especially since I was reading this thread when my mom brought the letter in! So my mom is just anxiously hovering over me and I could just tell exactly what it was because of everyone else’s descriptions of their envelopes haha. And I thought it was a really nice gesture that they added a personal, handwritten note at the bottom. Even though now it’s a little smeared because I had to check if it was real :D

My daughter also received her acceptance today. What a nice boost to have an acceptance come early! Anyone know when we’ll hear about financial aid?

lotsofquestions:I didn’t actually see my acceptance letter (I don’t live at home and they sent it to my home address) but my mom told me that they are sending out the financial aid info tomorrow, so you’ll probably get it by Monday or Tuesday.

Would you guys mind posting your stats?

Yay, congrats everyone! I was accepted ED and cannot wait to meet all the RD students!

Will Macalester send out more acceptance letter later? I mean if a student does not get the RD acceptance letter now, does it mean that he/she is rejected?

This was only for a select group of people that they knew would still be in their admit pile later and so accepted them early in order to court the applicants. So applications are still definitely being reviewed. I assume everyone else will find at the announced date if not beforehand.
