I guess I have clicked into this for some reason.

I guess I qualify as support! My son was rejected by a school he thought was recruiting him for football. I almost can’t believe that we ended up in this position, as I thought I had read every post correctly on the athlete recruiting forums. I did not.

It’s OK because he’s gone ED 2 at another school that had all along been recruiting him harder, and it all looks good, but still, it’s been a stressful couple of weeks since 2nd week of December, and we will sit for another 3. It’s awful. Yes also I looked in the mirror in my car and I can see new gray hairs.

Son was accepted at the only school he applied to: University of Alabama. Presidential scholar and Honors College. The whole college search process did not last long for us :)

Hello! I hang out more with the 2012ers but lurk here. This is a great group! We had a strange ‘oops’ experience. We live in Oregon and my S got into Univ Oregon, Oregon State, Western Washington and he’s waiting on Univ British Columbia and UWashington. He applied to the Univ of Wisconsin on a whim (honesty here–because it’s a great place to play Ultimate Frisbee, his real passion. He is not an intellectual, let’s just say). I’m an alum but our hopes weren’t high. You look at his list and think–‘one of these things is not like the others.’

You know what happened. He got in. We’re taken aback. And now he want to go. Shoot! I’m not sure he should go that far away. Argh. A good problem, but an issue for our family nevertheless. Anyone else have a similar experience? What did you do or what will you do? And why?

DD applied to TAMU, TAMUG, University of Houston and Alabama.

Tamu- still under review
TAMUG -accepted
Houston- accepted
Alabama- accepted

Looks like Alabama, honors program, nice scholarship offer and top ten rated program in her major.

TAMU admit seems to be held up because of class rank. Ok GPA and good test scores, great ec’s and loc’s. Would have had guaranteed admit except for rank. Problems of attending a very competive hS…

Funny to be considered honors candidate at Alabama and Houston but still waiting at TAMU. Tamu was dd 1st choice last year but Bama stole her heart. They sure know how to recruit. There is something to be said about feeling wanted versus just being another person under review.

Could you spell out TAMU and TAMUG? I’m not familiar with those acronyms?

My DS was accepted ED to Johns Hopkins’ Dept of Biomedical Engineering and EA to Case Western. He is thrilled to be going to JHU and it is SO nice that the stress of knowing where he’ll be next year and beyond is already over. What a treat that we didn’t expect!

We’re just really starting Round 2 for the S. So far he has been accepted to Centre College (Faculty scholarship, probably Language scholarship), Hendrix College (Merit and Odyssey scholarships) and Southwestern University (Cody Scholarship). So all three are about the cost of in-state UT Austin, where he’s waiting to see if he got into the Business Honors program (7.1% class rank, drats!). S likes all 4, but he will miss soccer if he goes to UT.

Now the real fun begins! Competitions for the Brown Scholarship at Southwestern University (full tuition), Hays Scholarship at Hendrix (full ride +), and the Brown Fellowships at Centre (full ride +). It’s like the application process all over again, with essays, weekends on campus, etc.

Northeastern - deferred
St. Edwards (in Austin) - merit scholarship
Hendrix - merit & odyssey scholarship
Rhodes college - accepted
University of Richmond - waiting
Gettysburg - waiting

But then around October she decided she wanted to go international and applied to:

University of Edinburgh - accepted
University of St. Andrews - accepted

Even though she is waiting to hear from 2 schools she has made her decision and I am glad it is behind us!
Now we move onto dorm/accommodations selection!

DD has been juggling LAC dance major vs dance conservatory. For dance, auditions are still pending, so we won’t know answers for a while, but so far -

Marymount Manhattan College - accepted - Pres scholarship (audition pending)
Univ NC School of the Arts - accepted to dance program - waiting on academic acceptance
Fordham/Ailey EA - waiting (audition completed)
Boston Conservatory - waiting (audition completed)
Temple U. - waiting (audition completed)
Smith- waiting
Mt Holyoke - waiting
Barnard - waiting
Purchase college - waiting (audition scheduled)
Muhlenberg - waiting (audition scheduled)
Rutgers - waiting (audition scheduled)
Juilliard - waiting (audition scheduled)
Univ of the Arts - waiting (audition scheduled)

Wow, @DDdances really great list of schools! We live fairly close to Goucher and it is fantastic school. Baltimore(Bmore to locals) has a thriving arts scene, which is not always recognized due to the close proximity to DC. The Goucher campus is in a really nice area near Towson. I tried to get D to apply for their Theatre program but she is adamant about leaving this area. She seems to prefer the southern schools above all. Her Drama/Theatre BA list-

Hofstra- accepted EA (Presidential Scholarship)
DeSales- accepted EA (Trustee Scholarship)
SCAD- accepted (scholarship)
Rollins- accepted (Presidential Scholarship)
Fordham- waiting (audition done)
Emerson- waiting (audition done)
Univ of Central FL- waiting (interview pending)

S was accepted to Univ. of Hawaii Manoa (his safety - we live in Hawaii) and DigiPen Inst. of Tech. in Washington (2nd choice). Still waiting on USC (1st choice, no EA or ED, decision in late March), UC Santa Cruz, and Univ. of Denver, and waiting to hear about financial aid from DigiPen.
