I have no idea which classes I want to take next year. Here are the different variations of schedules I’ve made so far:
AP Calculus AB/BC
AP Littt
AP Computer Science A
PLTW Engineering Capstone
Engineering Academy
Gym
Astronomy 2
OR
AP Calculus AB/BC
AP Littt
AP Computer Science A
AP Macroeconomics or AP US Gov
PLTW Engineering Capstone
Gym
Astronomy 2
I want to be an engineer, but I heard the engineering academy is taught terribly. The PLTW Engineering Capstone is just going to be a huge project that we work on for a whole semester. Should I go for the schedule that leans more toward my major? Should I go for an easier schedule and take Honors English instead of AP Lit? Should I replace Engineering Academy with an AP social studies class? HELP
if you plan to take the AP test and are good at English take AP lit, and IMO colleges like to see that you took classes in HS that you are interested in studying in colleges. If you don’t take it colleges that you apply to may be wary if you are actually interested in the topic if you didn’t really show much interest in it in your scheduele.
If you do well, you can get credits for the AP classes that may ease your load in college.
You want to take a course load that looks rigorous to colleges.
However, you also will be busy with college applications in the fall (write your essay over the summer and you will thank me later) and college admitted student visits and a little senioritis in the spring.
I do not see a proper science course…have you taken AP Physics and AP Chem? You will have to take them in college so it is good to prepare now. I do alumni admissions interviews and would be very wary of someone not taking a hard science senior year who wants to be an engineer. That is more important than taking " engineering" classes.
What are the requirements for social studies for graduation requirements?
I would suggest AP Economics (Micro/Macro) as those are fairly easy to get college credits for.
Keep in mind that senior year has the “hidden classes” of applying for colleges, writing essays, writing scholarship essays, and general stressing for college. You don’t want to have so much work for school that you don’t have enough time to put your full effort into your college apps. Also think about how you’ll feel when its march/april/may and you’ve been accepted/committed to a college. Most students get at least some form of senioritis. I’m not saying don’t take the classes, I took 5 APs my senior year, but just know you will have a lot more work than just schoolwork.
Do you think i could take AP Bio instead of AP Chem or AP Physics? because I can’t take Chem because of a requirement that i didn’t fill and physics isn’t offered next year
