No from Point Park. So for 2 no’s and 1 yes (one of my top choices thank goodness). Waiting literally drives me crazy…
@Roro101 - Hi from Toronto and congrats on the acceptance to one of your top choices - this is all that matters. I’m a lurking mom of a 10 grader (D). She is in a PA school in Toronto and might be in your shoes in a couple of years. Please don’t quit CC after you comfortably settle in your program of choice – we’ll need your wisdom when her time comes
Glad I found this thread. My daughter goes to a regular high school and is the only one we know who has applied it MT programs so I have to depend on CC for info. So far it has bee all "no"s. They all want her academically (valedictorian) but we are running out of programs. The only ones we have’t heard from, or know of that have’t sent out info yet are Point Park, NYU, Elon, and CMU which we know she isn’t getting into since she didn’t get passed to Barb. Thank you all for being my support system. We only had the funds/time/energy to audition for eleven programs.
I got 3 rejections in the same day and it blew.
@4461flmom hang in there! NYU is actually a great option for your kiddo as they do care very much about academics in addition to the artistic side so she has a good advantage there. Elon is a great school academically, even if she isn’t artistically admitted. A few years back my kiddo who was in a similar situation was struggling big time (eventually did get into NYU and will graduate this spring!) so I empathize. Remember: life is long and your D is an academically gifted kiddo and that will serve her well. Hang in there and know that I am rooting for good news as are many others!
@MTstudent435 - hang in there! That is awful…
You too @4461flmom - some good news will be coming. <3
Thank you for the encouragement. 4thtime, is your kiddo at Tisch or straight academic? My D really wants to attend an MT program or a strong Theater program where she can still take dance and voice electives so NYU is definitely up there on her list. Just wish we didn’t have to wait until April 1 to find out! Our Spring break starts March 30th and would have liked to have had a “yes” or two to visit! My understanding is a lot of the kids at Point Park take their acting classes at CMU. Not sure if this is the case or not. Just moms talking at an audition.
And congrats on your kiddo’s amazing accomplishment!
I’ve never heard of Point Park students taking acting classes at CMU. That doesn’t mean I am correct, but still this is the first time I have ever heard such a comment.
@4461flmom … we have all no’s too.
Well, technically, one waitlist. But we’re in the same boat.
And truthfully, I know sometimes it seems that EVERYONE has a boatload of acceptances to choose from, it’s just not the case. I know that there are quite a few lurkers that are in the same place we are … still waiting.
It is brutal and I think that we still hear a disproportionate amount of good news and people are more reticent about sharing bad news. D had six no’s before her one yes. Still waiting on four. Hang in there all.
@KaMaMom thanks for the post. Seems like all the same names keep showing up for the acceptances. Hoping that is good news for the kids who are wait listed once things shake out. Sometimes I think this is harder on the parents than the kids. My D is so busy with rehearsals for shows, A Capella, Solo and Ensemble, homework, boyfriend she has no time left over to worry about it…that’s where I come in…
I’ll share something else while I wait for our mail person … only 16 more hours til Wednesday’s mail comes - woohoo!!!
Anyway, at one of D’s auditions, there were several current female MT students hanging around during some down time, chatting up the kids, answering questions, etc. They were telling the kids that they remember how tough college audition season was at the time, but in hindsight, what they remember most (and loved most) about it was hanging out with their mom.
Lots of memories those kids shared with us - quick Subway runs, hotel room practicing, panic because they forgot their tights/shoes/headband blah blah blah. They had some very fond memories of their moms in particular. It really was sweet.
And you know what? No matter what the outcome I wouldn’t have traded this time (ALOT of time!) spent w/ my D. She’s a good egg … and she will make the best out of whatever shakes out in the next couple of months.
KaMaMom…not fair…I don’t normally cry…but that one brought tears to my eyes…literally! Thanks for reminding me what is truly important, our kids and their dreams.
@4461flmom Point Park kids do NOT take classes at CMU. Maybe what you heard is some adjunct faculty teach at both Point Park and CMU?
CMU students can take dance at Point Park, though.
Thank you for the clarification. I tried not to get involved in too many conversations at the auditions. Stayed on the outskirts. It didn’t make sense to me.
All nos here too so far. (Hoping for good news today!!) Thanks for all of the positive stories (and the venting). My D is is from a small private school and is the first one to ever go through this process. I really appreciate all of the support on this forum!
