Ok, all you parents… When the going gets tough, the tough get going! Time to give your kids more options. I did it, KaMaMom did it, and so can you. Go go go!
Just got off the phone with my D. She was in the bathroom at the movie theater crying and didn’t know why. Still not sure if she is going to let her boyfriend bring her home or if I am going to have to go and get her. I am sitting here repeating to myself, " I will not cry! I will not cry!" As I need to be strong for her. She has not cried yet. I think the stress has finally gotten to her. Insert broken heart here.
Boyfriend is bringing her home. I wonder if he liked peanut butter eggs.
Couldn’t agree more! When the rejections started rolling in my daughter applied to UMass, Drew, and Northeastern….and things turned out beautifully.
My heart is breaking hearing your stories. This can be such a cruel process. if it helps, I believe OCU is still accepting video auditions if you wish to audition there. I would call or check the website to make sure but it may be worth a try. i will be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that you find just the right school soon.
I feel for all of you. We went through this last year. This is a rough first step on a very tough path. But the path has many branches. Sometimes picking ourselves up from the stumbles can lead us to the right one.
@Carltonism I’m so sorry! Please know that you are not alone in this process. There have been a lot of posts about schools that are still auditioning, and kids who have succeeded even when it looked like nothing would go their way. The people on this thread have really helped!!! Hang in there!
Tears are rolling here- I remember it all well. My best advice is - again - to get out there and apply to other programs. There’s nothing wrong with these programs; you just didnt know about them before. As Bisouu said, it will all work out beautifully.
@4461flmom … ugh. Poor kid. Senior year of high school and college applications is stressful enough without the added stress of auditioning.
They will be better and stronger people because of this! It’s just the process to get there that sucks.
We originally applied to OCU. Unfortunately, it is no longer an option for us. There is a girl from my D’s high school who has been accepted that so severely bullied my daughter she was suicidal. There is another girl attending OCU right now that is leaving because she was also severely bullied by the same person and when asked, told the administration at OCU and they accepted her anyway. We also have another friend who was in the dance program and felt so isolated she left. Too small of a school to take the chance of putting my D in that situation.
The bully was accepted into the voice program.
@4461flmom This is so horrible to read…
I can’t find the list of all the schools still doing auditions, but I know that UAB (the University of Alabama at Birmingham) is having auditions 4/11. It’s a new program, but I keep hearing fabulous things about the director (and have met her & was very impressed) - several parents have commented here about her too. I have a friend in the department and she is really excited about the program. Apply!!!I
We got a message on accepted from LIU wanting her to apply? I was surprised
Go for it, 4461flmom!
Maybe I will just apply for her. Then when the letter comes it will REALLY be a surprise!
@4461flmom Stranger things have happened (That’s what I did and she is super happy)!!
My daughter was accepted to 2 programs and waitlisted at 2 programs, yet decided to attend Western Kentucky University which has an audition for the BFA after the 3rd semester. She decided to attend this school because she fell in love with the school and the program. She is beyond happy with her choice. This is a viable option for all those that have not had success with auditioned programs. If you would like more detailed information about the program, please send me a PM.
Here is a list of schools that may still have audition slots open:
U Memphis March 28 + Video
Northern Kentucky - April 4
UAB - April 11
Sam Houston State - April 17
Western Carolina - April 18
You may be able to squeeze one in at Nebraska Wesleyan before the end of March - see their page on http://getacceptd.com/ for prescreen requirements.
Other schools may still be accepting video auditions, possibly these schools:
Lindenwood
Santa Fe U Art & Design
U South Dakota
Central Washington
U Tampa
There are more, try looking around on http://getacceptd.com/
Thank you @EmsDad I will be looking into all of these. She already got accepted to U of Tampa when they saw her at the FL Theater Conference but really doesn’t want to go there. We live 30 minutes from the school and a lot of local kids go there. She really wants her “own experience”. Trying to convince her to try it for a year and reaudition next year. We will see…
