Another last minute option for those who need it: Temple extended their application deadline till tomorrow (Sunday). And they have auditions on March 28th and April 4th. BA Theatre with MT Conc. They take videos also.
Very nice campus and they’ve had lots of alumni on Broadway.

Add me to the list of those crying. I hope you you feel the Internet love from everyone. Everyone is pulling for you!
@pghmusician I just auditioned for Temple today. Although I’m not sure if the BA curriculum is the best fit for me, I can’t speak highly enough of the faculty. They are so wonderful and smart, and their students were really great too. Highly recommend people check this out! One student did tell me that their MT concentration is close to a BFA experience. Also, it’s nice to be in Philly which has an awesome theater community.
Thank you all! I am going to look into these programs. Sometimes we find refuge in very unexpected places!
I feel for you all and your kids. Please know that SOMETHING works out in the end. Perhaps it is doesn’t go as hoped and there are twists and turns, but this is not the end. Something will work out. First, not all notifications are in yet, and so there is a chance of an acceptance, and your kids just need one and can only attend one. Hopefully, they had a non-audition safety or two on the list. A BFA or audition based program is not a necessity to go into this field.
But perhaps nothing comes through on this round (hope that isn’t the case, but it can happen). Sometimes people don’t have the right college list for themselves or didn’t go about things in an effective way. And sometimes bad luck happens too.
While things may seem down and out, there is always another way to achieve one’s goals. One way is a gap year. Gap years can be very positive! I will share that my nephew is in another area of the arts. He applied to programs in his field, many of which involved an audition (even though he wasn’t going into performance itself). He didn’t get into ANY of his schools. I felt badly but he dealt with it well. He took a gap year. During that year, he got an internship in his field (I helped him prepare applications for that). He also had an unrelated job. He got a new artistic teacher/coach. The main thing is that his family did not really go about the process in an informed way. His college list was not the right one for him. Overall, they really hadn’t done things in an optimal way. So, during his gap year, I offered to do college counseling with him from soup to nuts, starting with a major overhaul of his college list. So, the second time around, with help with everything from his recommendations, resumes, training, essays, interviews and so on, he got into all of his schools except one! A completely different outcome. He ended up attending SUNY Purchase and loved his program and excelled and won awards there. He has since graduated and is now working in his field. It all worked out for him. That is just ONE story. I share it because if you look beyond this short term low point (if it turns out to be one), it can work out ultimately. This one college cycle doesn’t define your kid. Something can be worked out. Keep that in mind as you go through this and remind your kids that things will work out in some way and that they will eventually be happily doing something next year and the year after that.
The following BFA MT programs hold auditions during or after the first year, including:
U Mississippi
U West Florida
U Western Kentucky
I believe that you can still apply to all of these schools.
@pghmusician, @Emsdad, great selections. And don’t forget Cap21/Molly and Drew university. 2018 kids are so thriving there. Don’t look at the past at what you coulda, woulda, shoulda … look at the future for what you have left to do! It just bites right now…but I don’t hear the busty woman singing!
@4461flmom. I’m so sorry to hear about the bullying. Our D was a victim of bullies during high school so I know exactly how you feel. I would not have encouraged my D to attend a school where those that bullied her attended either. So it makes sense that, if that particular person who bullied your D decides to go to OCU, then OCU may not be the best choice for your family for those personal reasons.
But for others still looking for more auditions, I would encourage them to learn more about OCU and the programs it offers. It is a great place to go to school. Our D has found it very inclusive and loves having so many friends who enjoy theatre as much as she does. They are so busy she has never felt bored or isolated. There are lots of activities both in theatre and outside of theatre in which you can get involved.
As far as trying to help those still in search of just the right program, I know people have mentioned Northern Kentucky, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Western Carolina, Columbia College in Chicago, AMDA and others as still accepting applications or still having audition dates available. And it sounds as if you heard from LIU too. So options for auditioning are out there. Keep searching, applying and auditioning until you find just the right one.
Wishing you the best of luck @4461flmom. Wish I could have been of more help.
@vnstar, just the fact that you took the time to read my post and respond means the world to me! I know others who have graduated from OCU and have gone on to have successful careers. One loved it so much, she went back to work there. I just went on to Acceptd and it says Temple is no longer accepting. It is also vague about what to upload. I am going to do it anyway and call them Monday because they still have audition spots open. Should I upload her resume? Her singing? Her acting? You can only upload one file. HELP!!!
Never mind. It let me upload more than one file.
West Florida is now an audition to attend program, but they still have 2 audition dates left, one at the end of March and one in April.
Hallelujah! We are all here for ya @4461flmom! And I detest that bully $,()!&).?, too!
It has been going on for years. The chorus and drama teachers didn’t want to have to deal with the paperwork so handled it “in house” so it never went on her record. When she physically threatened my daughter twice in front of several witnesses and the chorus teacher knew about it, I forced his hand. So at least now it is on her. Record. Sadly, I believe it is a learned behavior. Her mom verbally attacked me on a bus full of kids on a field trip to EPCOT for Candlelight. It was bizarre, sad and terrifying all at the same time. I just sat there and let her spew.
Wishing the best for all of our precious ones. These stories are heartbreaking and inspirational at the same time. Thank goodness for CC!
Got the rejection letter from Pace today.
Another one bites the dust. Elon Academically wait listed for Fall accepted for Spring.
@Carltonism, my heart is also breaking for your daughter and some of the other kids/parents here. I agree with Soozie that a gap year may not be a bad idea. It does sound like you were late to the info and could use a year to catch up. And there are so many cool/interesting/valuable things she could do with a gap year besides just reapplying to MT programs! When I was a senior in high school, I decided in April to (very suddenly and unexpectedly) take a gap year so I could earn more money for college. I won’t lie, when all my friends went off to college that fall and I didn’t, it was tough, but in the end it got me where I wanted to go, and it helped teach me that I really COULD do anything I wanted to do if I kept at it and was willing to make some sacrifices. This field is so chock full of “dry spells” and rejection and throwing themselves out there just hoping to be noticed, that learning to get back up and brush yourself off and keep on going and WAITING is a must. ((HUG))
No, I didn’t realize this thread was exclusive to MT majors since the title of it is Class of 2019 Rejections, Denials , Etc.
@lje62, true but it’s in the Musical Theatre Major section of CC. No harm tho, come and play anyway! Things are a lot different here than other sections!
I am not sure how I stumbled across this thread …oh well, being rejected is hard on all students. I backed away from the parents of class of 2015 thread because most of the news there was good for parents and students alike. Not that I cannot be happy for other’s successes and celebrations , but it was getting a little hard when my own is unhappy
