@MTVT2015 does anyone else find it reprehensible that these institutions of higher learning cannot clearly convey to their applicants acceptance to the college vs acceptance to the department? Seriously!
Correct @MTVT2015 , Emerson doesn’t separate the acceptances. My daughter’s acceptance letter last year referenced the Musical Theatre program. I don’t know how the waitlist letter reads.
My son was accepted into the BA theater studies program not the BFA program for Emerson.
I’ve mostly adopted the “wait for snail mail if there’s any doubt” policy.
@martin247998 how did you hear? Was that through the portal?
My son got an email to check his portal.
No from CCPA. Everyone waiting for an email from them check your spam folder…mine went to junk mail.
About Emerson…in my D’s year, she applied Early Action. In the Early Action round, she was accepted to Emerson itself, and deferred for the BFA in MT (I’ll never forget it because it was the first notification and it was a big fat envelope with all the acceptance stuff in it and we didn’t realize that getting in separately to Emerson was even a possibility). When the RD decisions came out, she was denied for MT and of course, she would not have considered Emerson without the program.
Deleted. Duplicate post.
Funny story about Emerson. My D applied EA…it was her practice audition. She liked the program, but at the time, they had an arbitrary cut program, so she never seriously considered the school. (They have since gotten rid of said cut program.) She was deferred from EA. Then when the RD letters came out, she was rejected…but the form letter told her that if she got her grades and scores up, she could reapply next year. My D was valedictorian, with very good SAT/ACT scores. Can’t really get your grades up over #1. But it just goes to show how the MT rejection is not at all separated out from admission/rejection to the school at Emerson. We got a good chuckle out of that one. I actually like that better than the schools that completely separate academic and artistic acceptance…and then bug you to choose another major if they want you academically but not artistically. It’s nice when a no is a no.
My son was just waitlisted for CCPA, his first choice. Is there any chance he will get in off of the waitlist and how long until we might find out?
People definitely get in off the waitlist, but it may take a while.
Is everyone hearing from CCPA via email?
yes
monkey…yeah, it just was different when my D applied EA to Emerson (yes, was not her first choice either, but wanted to do one early audition, plus hear from one school early) and she also was deferred for the BFA, but she did get accepted to the college at that juncture (in fact, the whole situation was clumsy because I was reading her acceptance letter over the phone to her all excited, only to find later in the packet that she was deferred to RD for the BFA program). Not sure why it was different than with your D (unless they changed how they did things in the interim) because obviously Emerson is an academic safety for your kid (mine too).
You do have a funny story to tell about “get the grades up” though!! LOL
Hey all, I’ve been a lurker for a while now, and I’ve been rejected from every audition based mt program so far (unless you count getting into Muhlenberg which is technically not an auditioned based program) including BoCo and Emerson an hour apart today. The rest I’m waiting on are pretty much guaranteed rejections, and I feel like I’m just watching my dream slip away. Sorry I just needed to vent a bit… I’ll go back to being quiet…
Don’t go @mtsc13 Reach and let us help. This process sucks and we have all have had some bitter disappointments. Nothing will make this feel better, but know that you are not alone.
We are here for you @mtsc13 ! Hand in there!!! What schools are you still waiting to hear from?
@mtsc13 - I have a friend who’s D is at Muhlenberg for dance and LOVES it - so don’t rule it out just because it’s not “audition based” - Ask @bisouu - when it came down to it last year - her D chose a non-audition program OVER an auditioned program she was admitted to. Keep your chin up!
My daughter selected an audition later program OVER auditioned programs also. There is more than just 1 path!!!
