Class of 2020 Merit Scholarship Recipients

@mandomelife, yes! Please do contact our office: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu. We can help you sort this out.

@mannysidz - did you call the office of admissions or the office of financial aid? Thanks!

@mommdc - thanks for the info. FAFSA is in progress…

I believe office of admissions. My mom is the one who actually spoke on the phone I was sitting with her.

Just to clarify, the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid is one office. We have the same phone number (412-624-7488) so when you call, you just need to let us know whether you would like to speak to an admissions staffer or a financial aid staffer. If you have questions about scholarships, you should ask to speak with an admissions counselor or email oafa@pitt.edu. If you have questions about financial aid (loans, grants, FAFSA, work study) then you should ask to speak with a financial aid counselor or email finaid@pitt.edu.

How do we get scholarship notifications? By mail?

Yes, by postal mail

Full tuition. Class rank 1 out of 312. 1950 on SATs. Weighted Gpa 4.48

$10,000/year.

2320 SAT, 800s SATIIs, 35 ACT, 4.0 uw GPA (4.65w), class rank 1/350.

What would influence the decision of a full tuition scholarship vs. $10,000? Date of application? Essays?

It may depend on the school applied to, on diversity, on OOS versus IS, for essays the short answer questions can be submitted, but optional.

10,000 per year, 35 ACT, 4.0 GPA, 3rd in my class of about 100.

If we received our scholarship information and no invitation to apply to the Chancellor’s Scholarship, does that mean that we are not invited to apply? Or are invitations to apply mailed/emailed separately?

Chancellor’s invitation should be included with scholarship notification letter.

My daughter received full tuition scholarship, 34 ACT, 3.95 GPA, on ranking , OOS.
She was nominated to Chancellor’s but didn’t receive invitation yet.

does full tuition scholarship cover oos tuition?

@blueblue98 yes it does cover OOS tuition. how do you know she was nominated to chancellor’s if she didn’t receive an invitation yet?

@Copperrrrrrrrrrr
in her scholarship packet it said she was nominated …

@blueblue98 and that is different from the invitation? idk what the difference is but my invitation/notification (everything was in one packet) gave me a username and password to log into the website. if your nomination letter has that, then i think that’s all you need. if not, I would give them a call

@blueblue98 Also congrats on all of it!

I think she means she was told she was eligible but didn’t receive the info yet . that’s what happened with mine : I was told I was invited to the Honors College and the Chancellor’s Nominee Scholarship in my acceptance letter but received no info concerning how to apply for Chancellor’s until a few days later .

And while I’m here :
Chancellor’s Nominee $10k , WOC , 102 weighted GPA , 7 of 670+ , 1490/2220 SAT , multiple EC with 3 leadership positions .

Also , maybe someone from Pitt can answer this: if you have received a Chancellor’s Nominee Scholarship, are you also eligible for the merit aid talked about in your Financial Aid web page ?

Thanks !

Are merit awards granted entirely based on posted criteria? Is there any subjective review of high achieving students from top public schools that post rank (to the disadvantage of students who are exceptional but were unaware of how to front load multiple AP’s as freshmen, take certain classes online, etc. to play the rank game)? In other words, does being outside of top 5% (or 10% or 25%, as the case may be) automatically disqualify for merit when all other stats are well above posted range?
